to apply for the job
Do you want to help shape the future of the controller function in an organization where your skills truly make a difference? As an Economic Controller at Dalarna University, you have a unique opportunity to develop and ensure the quality of financial processes in an ambitious organization. We are now looking for two Economic Controllers to join us in Falun, who together will contribute to creating structure, quality, and long-term balanced economics.
Your working day as an Economic Controller
In the role of Economic Controller, you will have the opportunity to be involved from the start in building, structuring, and developing the financial work at Dalarna University. With a focus on quality, clarity, and sustainability, you will create structures and working methods that are developed and maintained to a high standard over time. You are offered a role with significant responsibility and the opportunity to influence, in a unit where collaboration and support are an integral part of everyday life.
You will become a central part of the university's financial function and a close collaborator to the operations. You are responsible for "your" operational areas, and by producing qualified analyses and supporting materials, you provide the operations with the right prerequisites to make well-founded decisions. You are not content with merely presenting figures; you actively contribute to creating understanding and direction for the future. The role involves both operational and strategic work to ensure quality, structure, and progress, with the goal of creating a long-term sustainable and well-functioning economy.
To succeed in the role, it is a prerequisite that you have experience with qualified work involving closing accounts, budgeting, and forecasting, as well as experience in independently driving the development of processes. With a proactive approach, you ensure that the work is not only carried out but also quality-assured and developed.
As an Economic Controller, you ensure qualified support to managers and leadership, where you not only report but also challenge, proactively guide, and create understanding of financial connections. With good knowledge of regulations, you ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with current requirements.
Your main areas of responsibility
You work with closing accounts, budgeting, and forecasting within the faculties and university-wide, and proactively drive these processes forward, including by:
- identifying areas for improvement, driving development and efficiency, and documenting both working methods and processes for internal work and for the university as a whole,
- independently creating future financial plans and calculating future results for the operations,
- comparing actual outcomes with budgets and forecasts, as well as identifying and following up on deviations,
- analyzing financial reports, producing and documenting financial analyses, proactively informing, giving advice and support to leadership to drive operations and make strategic decisions based on financial analysis and current laws and regulations.
Are you ready to take on the role of creating sustainability, for yourself, the department, and Dalarna University, by taking overall responsibility and helping to build something from the ground up that makes a real difference, both today and in the long term – then we are looking for you.
Are you the person we are looking for?
Requirements for the role:
- an academic degree (at least 240 hp) with a focus on economics/accounting.
- at least three years of current and relevant experience working as a controller.
- experience with qualified financial work, including work with budgeting, forecasting, closing accounts, accounting, and financial follow-up.
- experience in independently driving the development/digitalization of processes/working methods (e.g., through job descriptions, policy documents, decisions, routines, digitalization).
- very good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing, as well as the ability to express yourself in English, both orally and in writing.
- good knowledge of the Office package, especially Excel.
It is meritorious if you have:
- previous experience working as a controller at a university, college, or government agency.
- knowledge of regulations and accounting within public administration.
- experience working in the business system Unit4 ERP (formerly Agresso).
To succeed in the assignment, you take clear responsibility. With a high awareness of quality, you ensure that supporting materials, analyses, and reporting maintain a very high level. You have the ability to build trusting relationships with managers and colleagues, where you can both support and challenge. With high analytical skills, you see patterns and connections and read between the lines to identify risks and opportunities. Since the university's controller function is in a development phase, it is crucial that you are development-oriented and thrive in change. You see opportunities where others see problems and actively contribute to developing working methods, processes, and structures that strengthen the operations over time.
