Responsible Medical Officer for Rehabilitation (MAR)

From July 1, 2026, all municipalities in Sweden are required to have a Responsible Medical Officer for Rehabilitation (MAR). While many municipalities are currently recruiting, few can offer the opportunities, mandate, and context available in Norrtälje.

Healthcare and Social Care in Norrtälje (KSON) is now looking for our new MAR.

We are looking for you who want to use your experience, judgment, and professional weight to shape and develop rehabilitation in one of Sweden's most exciting healthcare and social care organizations. You will have the opportunity to influence at a system level, contribute to good and safe care, and make a real difference for the independence, health, and quality of life of the residents.

Perhaps you are an occupational therapist or physiotherapist with extensive experience from municipal healthcare. Perhaps you have worked with quality development, patient safety, assistive devices, or operational development. Regardless of your background, you are secure in your profession and accustomed to turning knowledge into improvements that have an impact on operations.

We offer you

Here, you operate at the intersection between the municipality and the region, in an organization responsible for the entire healthcare and social care system. This provides a holistic perspective and strategic influence that few other MAR positions can offer.

You will:

  • Help shape and establish the MAR function from the start
  • Have a strategic and independent assignment with significant influence
  • Have the opportunity to influence the development of rehabilitation at a system level
  • Play a central role in work related to quality, patient safety, and close care
  • Benefit from short decision-making paths and good opportunities to turn ideas into action
  • Work with experienced and engaged colleagues focused on collaboration, quality, and development

The Assignment

As MAR, you are KSON's highest expert function within the rehabilitation area. You are responsible for ensuring that rehabilitation, habilitation, and assistive device interventions are carried out with good quality and high patient safety within municipal healthcare.

You lead and develop the overall rehabilitation work through follow-up, analysis, quality development, and expert support to operations and providers.

In this role, you will, among other things:

  • Formulate, follow up on, and develop guidelines, routines, and governing documents
  • Monitor quality, patient safety, and deviations within the rehabilitation area
  • Provide qualified support and advice to managers, providers, and colleagues
  • Contribute to evidence-based, equitable, and safe rehabilitation
  • Support operations in matters regarding rehabilitation, habilitation, self-care, and assistive devices
  • Collaborate with actors within municipal and regional healthcare

You work independently but never alone. The assignment involves close collaboration with operations, providers, and other key actors within healthcare and social care.

Challenges and Opportunities

Rehabilitation plays a central role in the transition to close care and the possibility of living an independent life at older ages. At the same time, the MAR function is new as a mandatory function in the country's municipalities.

At KSON, you therefore have a unique opportunity to:

  • Build and develop the MAR function long-term
  • Strengthen the position of rehabilitation in municipal healthcare
  • Contribute to a more cohesive healthcare and social care chain
  • Influence development across organizational and administrative boundaries
  • Make an impact in an operation that is of great significance for both residents and future care

What You Need to Bring

Requirements

  • Licensed occupational therapist or physiotherapist
  • At least five years of experience from municipal healthcare within the rehabilitation area
  • Documented experience in quality work, operational development, patient safety work, or follow-up within healthcare

Merits

  • Experience in independently formulating, implementing, and following up on governing documents
  • Experience in leading or coordinating patient safety work and deviation management
  • Experience in municipality-wide or strategic rehabilitation work
  • Experience in collaboration between municipal and regional healthcare
  • Experience in leading, coordinating, or advisory roles
  • Experience from several operational areas within municipal healthcare

Who are you?

You are a person who inspires trust and builds strong professional relationships. Through a listening and collaborative approach, you create conditions for dialogue and consensus.

You are secure in your profession, make independent assessments, and can handle complex situations where different interests, regulations, and needs need to be weighed together. You work analytically, see connections, and draw well-founded conclusions that contribute to improvements in quality and patient safety.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
