Department of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental Studies

About the Job

As an Economist, you will be responsible for the department's overall economic management and serve as decision-support for the Head of Department. VFM has approximately 75% external funding, involving the management of numerous contracts and funders based on regulations applicable to the university as a government authority as well as those of the respective funders. In your work, you will collaborate closely with the Head of Department and other administrators, working to ensure efficient economic administration.

Main responsibilities:

  • Monitoring the department's finances
  • Supporting operational planning
  • Providing the Head of Department with data and analyses
  • Planning, coordinating, and compiling budget work at the department level
  • Responsible for the department's quarterly and annual financial statements
  • Conducting ongoing reconciliations and forecasts
  • Supporting researchers with project economics, project budgeting, and reporting
  • Acting as a first point of contact for procurement and contract matters

Your Background

Qualifications:

An academic degree with a focus on economics. You should have knowledge of administrative systems and Excel as a work tool. As a government authority, high requirements are placed on Swedish language skills, but the department is also an international workplace, which requires good proficiency in English.

Previous experience with project economics, project monitoring towards various funders (e.g., EU), experience working with economics in the public sector and specifically in higher education, as well as knowledge of public procurement (LOU) and experience reading and interpreting contracts are meritorious. Further meritorious qualifications include experience with the administrative systems Agresso (UBW), Proceedo, and Primula.

In the role, you will interact with many people, so personal qualities such as the ability to collaborate, provide good service, and work in a structured manner are particularly important. You adapt easily to new conditions, are analytical, and meticulous. We value initiative and responsibility.
