Registered Occupational Therapist for Centralized Child and Student Health in Borlänge

The centralized Child and Student Health service in Borlänge Municipality is a delightfully dynamic workplace characterized by quality, collaboration, flexibility, and development. Borlänge is Dalarna's largest urban area with convenient connections to neighboring towns such as Falun, Säter, and Gagnef. By public transport, you can easily commute to cities like Hedemora, Ludvika, and Leksand.

The centralized Child and Student Health service is tasked with supporting the development of local child and student health services and strengthening the child and student health perspective. A significant part of the work focuses on preventive and health-promoting activities. The work as a whole is varied and takes place at the organizational, group, and individual levels, in collaboration with school staff, guardians, and other agencies, as well as cross-professionally within our own operations. Collaboration with other agencies and actors is included as needed.

Staff in the centralized Child and Student Health service includes school nurses, school doctors, school psychologists, speech therapists, special education teachers for preschool, a medically responsible nurse, and a medical secretary. The organization is led by a unit manager who will be your direct supervisor.

We now wish to expand our cross-professional competence by adding a new profession.

We are therefore looking for a registered occupational therapist who wants to make a difference for children and young people in our primary schools. As a school occupational therapist in Child and Student Health, you will have a varied and meaningful role where you contribute unique competence that complements and strengthens our joint child and student health work.

As a school occupational therapist with us, you will be centrally located together with the other categories in the central Child and Student Health service but will work out towards the municipality's primary schools. Support and collaboration exist both within the central Child and Student Health service and, of course, with the schools' employees and other municipal functions.

We offer you an important and developmental assignment in a activity that truly makes a difference for children and young people, and in addition, a place in an engaged and cross-professional Child and Student Health team!

Our core values will naturally attract you!

  • I am here for the people of Borlänge
  • I like challenges
  • I meet every person with openness

1 position(s).

Job Responsibilities

Your assignment is to increase students' activity and participation in the school environment, which is a crucial prerequisite for learning and health. The work is conducted in a health-promoting, preventive, and remedial manner. Since the position is entirely new for the schools in Borlänge, the role will to some extent be created and developed in dialogue between the occupational therapist and the unit manager based on the schools' needs. We envision that the role will include, among other things:

Investigation and Assessment

  • Map and assess students' needs and prerequisites for activity and participation in the school environment
  • Use standardized assessment instruments relevant to the position
  • Participate in investigating needs for extra adaptations, special support, school aids, and strategies

Individual Interventions

  • Suggest and follow up on adaptations of the learning environment (pedagogical, physical, and social)
  • Provide advice regarding school aids (not prescribing responsibility), cognitive support, and compensatory strategies
  • Support students with activity balance, stress management, ergonomics, and motor skills

General and Organizational Interventions

  • Contribute to the preventive work of student health teams
  • Supervise and educate teachers and other staff regarding disabilities and learning environment adaptations
  • Collaborate in work regarding problematic school attendance and transitions between stages
  • Collaborate with external actors such as habilitation, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), and social services

Qualifications and Merits

Basic requirements for the position:

  • Licensure as an occupational therapist issued by the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen).
  • Good knowledge of the physical, psychological, cognitive, and social development of children and young people.
  • Familiarity with relevant laws: the Education Act, the Health and Medical Services Act, the Patient Data Act, and the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act.
  • Very good oral and written skills in Swedish.
  • Class B driver's license.

Personal qualities:

You need to be structured in your work and have good collaborative skills. In addition, you must be able to work independently when the position requires it. Since you will be working towards several different schools simultaneously, the position also requires that you have a good ability to prioritize and work within sometimes fixed timeframes.

Meritorious qualifications:

  • Education or experience within neuropsychiatric disabilities
  • Experience from student health, habilitation, CAMHS, child rehabilitation, or other work experience from working with children and young people that the employer deems equivalent.
  • Experience with assessment instruments relevant to the school environment
  • Knowledge of clarifying pedagogy and cognitive support

Salary: Monthly salary.
Employment type: Permanent position.
Duration: Permanent, start date: To be agreed upon.
Working hours: Daytime.

In connection with the interview, you as a candidate must provide proof of citizenship in Sweden/EU/EEA or a valid work and residence permit.
