About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation, remand prisons, and client transport.
The Umeå operational area includes the closed prison in Umeå, the open prison in Sörbyn, as well as the remand prison in Umeå. We are undergoing significant capacity expansion, and there is a lot happening in the operational area in terms of renovation and new construction. The largest professional group is prison officers, but healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production managers, and others also work here. At the Sörbyn prison, inmates are engaged in labor market training, learning centers, various treatment programs, or work in the kitchen, carpentry, plant cultivation, textiles, etc. Sörbyn prison is an agricultural prison with grain cultivation and animal husbandry. At the Umeå prison, inmates are engaged in wood/industry, kitchen work, learning centers, and treatment programs. It is approximately a 10-minute walk from the nearest bus stop to the Umeå prison and remand prison, and Sörbyn prison is most easily reached by car. Staff parking is available at all units.
