Job Description
Verification Editor at UR, Sweden's Educational Radio
Are you an experienced journalist with specialist competence in fact-checking and verification methods? Do you have a passion for securing media credibility against disinformation and want to help develop how a modern public service editorial team works with verification?
As a Verification Editor at UR, you will take on a new, exciting key role with ample opportunity to influence and develop our methods and routines regarding fact-checking. You will work to support the entire programming department in its work with all our target audiences.
Responsibilities
About the role
In this role, you will further develop methods and approaches for fact-checking and verification. You will work both broadly and strategically as well as operationally in specific projects with the goal of contributing to high credibility, quality, and reliability.
Your main tasks:
- Drive the development of working methods in projects related to fact-checking and research, as well as transparency issues.
- Provide operational support to the editorial teams and assist producers, editors, and reporters with questions regarding research, source criticism, and verification.
- Conduct internal training and follow up to ensure that projects use the correct methods for research and verification.
- Stay updated with the latest digital tools for verification regarding images, text, and video.
- Collaborate both internally within UR and within the public service family, and cooperate with relevant external actors.
To succeed in this role, you are a curious and analytical journalist who sees logic and connections in complex information without losing sight of long-term strategies. You are structured, communicative, and have excellent collaboration skills. Since the role is new to us, you need to thrive in a changing environment, enjoy trying new solutions, and drive development forward.
Qualifications
- Journalism education or equivalent experience.
- Documented experience in journalistic work and qualified social research.
- Several years of practical experience in advanced fact-checking, source criticism, and verification methods in media production.
- Very good knowledge of OSINT methods, as well as digital research and verification tools.
- Experience using AI tools in research and scrutiny work.
- Extensive journalistic knowledge and a good understanding of public service conditions and UR's distinct character.
- Very good command of Swedish in speech and writing, as well as good knowledge of English.
It is an advantage if you also have:
- Experience in change management within an editorial team or media house.
- Experience in leadership and/or conducting training.
