About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation, remand custody, and client transport.

Job Description

As a Probation Inspector with a focus on programs, you will be part of a program team of approximately ten colleagues. You will work with treatment programs for clients under probation supervision. The program activities aim to prevent recidivism and are therefore conducted through extensive manual-based programs for clients under ongoing supervision. The programs are conducted individually, and the main task is to plan, lead, develop, and follow up on program activities at the probation service together with the probation inspector and other program leaders.

The manual-based programs are conducted with high quality and according to the principles of evidence-based practice. They are primarily based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and social learning theory. We use programs targeting criminality, violence issues, sexual offenses, and domestic violence.

There are several programs at the probation service, which means that program leaders run different programs in parallel. The role of program leader includes not only leading programs but also administrative tasks and documentation. Your employment begins with basic training in program activities and the manual-based program OTO-Prism. You are expected to complete the program leader training included in the assignment.

To thrive in this role, it is important that you take the initiative for good cooperation both within your own team and with others within the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. The team works with clients individually in the programs, but collaborates extensively and supports each other. We are therefore looking for someone who can work both independently and as part of a team for the vision "Better Out". As a Probation Inspector with a focus on programs, you will also receive continuous group supervision.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who is secure, stable, and has good self-awareness. You have a good understanding of how people acquire knowledge and adapt your way of conveying messages based on the recipient's conditions. In your professional practice, you have good judgment, integrity, and a structured work approach. You can independently plan, organize, and prioritize your work effectively. As a Probation Inspector, you need to have good cooperation skills and be able to communicate clearly. You must also have a physical condition that allows you to act physically if the situation requires it.

To thrive and succeed in your assignment, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's basic values regarding a human view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that humans are capable of development. You are also aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others. Furthermore, you are expected to contribute through your attitude to ensuring that everyone is treated equally. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • An academic degree (at least bachelor's level), preferably with a behavioral science focus, or another academic education combined with experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
  • Good ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish
  • Category B driver's license

The following are also meritorious:

  • Well-regarded work experience within the prison and probation service, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare and social care work
  • Relevant language skills
  • Client-facing experience within the prison and probation service
  • Experience working with documentation
  • Experience with CBT-based interventions
  • Current experience in relevant treatment work
  • Other education with a treatment focus that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant for the position
