Sweden's most beautiful workplace is looking for a Data Analyst based in Norrköping or Gothenburg.

The Swedish Transport Administration (Sjöfartsverket) is strengthening its ability to utilize data as a strategic resource for management, monitoring, and business development. As part of this transition, we are now looking for a Data Analyst to join the Analysis Unit – a role for you who wants to turn data into insights, decision support, and concrete business benefits within a socially important mission: accessible, navigable, and safe maritime transport.

The Analysis Unit is a relatively newly formed unit at the Swedish Transport Administration, currently consisting of BI developers and analysts. The unit has an agency-wide mandate to integrate, process, analyze, and make data accessible. We support all departments of the Swedish Transport Administration with knowledge, competence, and products within the data and analysis field.

Job Responsibilities

This is a position for you who want to work close to operations, methodically and analytically, while also contributing to the development of the Swedish Transport Administration's analysis capabilities.

You will work with the entire analysis chain – from understanding the business's questions and assessing the possibilities of the data foundation to conducting analyses, visualizing results, and formulating conclusions that can be implemented in management, monitoring, and business development.

As a Data Analyst at the Swedish Transport Administration, your tasks include:

  • translating business needs into clear analysis questions, hypotheses, and methodological frameworks
  • identifying, processing, combining, and quality-assuring data from various sources
  • conducting quantitative and statistical analyses of trends, relationships, deviations, variations, volumes, costs, forecasts, and effects
  • selecting, applying, and explaining relevant analysis methods based on the question, data quality, and use case
  • assessing and reporting uncertainties, assumptions, limitations, and potential error sources in analyses
  • producing analysis materials, visualizations, and conclusions that can be used in management, monitoring, and business development
  • contributing to the development of the Swedish Transport Administration's overall analysis capability through working methods, methods, and quality assurance within the data and analysis field

You will have the opportunity to help build a modern analysis and decision support capability where data, analysis, and business meet to create value for the entire agency. You will become part of a strategically important area with the possibility to influence both your own role and our working methods, priorities, and continued development.

Who are you?

To be considered for the position, you must have:

  • an academic education of at least 180 credits in fields such as statistics, economics, business administration, systems science, computer science, industrial economics, social sciences with a quantitative focus, or other education deemed equivalent by the Swedish Transport Administration
  • at least three years of relevant work experience in qualified analysis work, where you have independently processed data, conducted analyses, and produced target-group-adapted decision or analysis materials
  • experience in translating business questions into clear analysis questions, hypotheses, variables, boundaries, and methodological frameworks
  • experience in using statistical methods to analyze trends, relationships, deviations, variations, volumes, costs, forecasts, or effects
  • experience in assessing and reporting uncertainties, assumptions, method choices, limitations, and quality in conducted analyses
  • experience in using R, Python, or equivalent script-based analysis environments for data processing, statistical analysis, visualization, or automation
  • experience in using SQL or equivalent query languages to extract, structure, combine, and quality-assure data from databases, data warehouses, or other relevant data sources
  • experience in presenting analysis results in a way where conclusions, interpretations, and possible courses of action are understandable and usable for different target groups
  • excellent ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing, and good ability to express yourself in English

It is meritorious if you have:

  • experience with forecasting models, regression analysis, scenario analysis, optimization, or quantitative impact analysis
  • experience in analysis work where machine learning methods have been used for prediction, classification, segmentation, or identification of patterns and deviations
  • experience with Power BI or equivalent visualization and decision support tools
  • experience in development-oriented analysis work in cross-functional teams

We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. We are looking for someone who is analytical, structured, and has a good ability to see patterns, interpret relationships, and draw well-founded conclusions. You are proactive and self-reliant, with a clear drive to create value through data and analysis. The role involves many contact surfaces within the Swedish Transport Administration. Therefore, you need to be communicative, collaborative, and able to explain complex relationships clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. You work without hierarchy, build trusting relationships, and contribute constructively to joint development work.
