About the workplace

The County Administrative Board is a driving force for a sustainable society. We work together with authorities, municipalities, businesses, and other actors with a focus on Västra Götaland County and its 1.7 million inhabitants. The County Administrative Board has a broad range of operations and plays a very important role in several areas of society. This includes, not least, the highly current challenges of regional growth, implementing the green transition, developing civil defence, and nurturing democracy.

The County Administrative Board is a regional state authority with approximately 1,000 friendly and competent employees. We have operations in several locations in Västra Götaland, as well as elsewhere in Sweden, as we are responsible for the IT operations for all county administrative boards.

What we do

The Nature and Water Division is tasked with strengthening biodiversity and outdoor recreation.

The nature management function works with nature-conserving management and outdoor recreation within protected nature. In Västra Götaland County, there are around 580 nature reserves, of which 180 are managed by the County Administrative Board in the eastern part of the county. In addition to nature reserves, there are another 100 or so protected areas that we work actively with throughout the county, such as national parks and Natura 2000 areas. Here lies a rich and varied natural and cultural landscape with plateaus, beautiful coastal areas along Lake Vänern and Lake Vättern, calcareous hay meadows, valuable bird lakes, and grazing lands.

We collaborate with the West Coast Foundation, which manages the remaining state nature reserves in the county, as well as with municipalities regarding municipal reserves.

Twenty people work in this function, both nature managers and practical nature conservationists. Our practical work team consists of approximately 5 people who work within the geographical area of Skaraborg, on behalf of management colleagues.

About the job

The work consists of practical nature conservation work, such as thinning and tree felling, grass burning, maintenance of outdoor recreation facilities, meadow management with mowing, boundary marking, and some carpentry work. The work takes place outdoors in all seasons and is physically demanding. In your work, you will meet visitors, landowners, and contractors.

As a team leader, you will carry out practical work, but you are also responsible for planning the work for the group, both in the short and long term. The work team works on behalf of management colleagues. As a team leader, you are part of a team with management colleagues where you jointly develop working methods and discuss planning. As a team leader, you must ensure and follow up that the physical working environment for those working practically with nature conservation is satisfactory.

You are also responsible for ensuring that the operations have an efficient logistics flow for both personnel and equipment, as the workplace varies geographically. You must also ensure that the work is carried out efficiently and with high nature conservation benefit.

The base of operations is Hornborgasjön near Broddetorp, where we primarily have machinery and equipment. However, you will work in other protected areas in the eastern part of the county. One week you will be mowing and thinning on Kinnekulle, and the next week you will be boundary marking a forest nature reserve in Tidaholm. This means that one day is rarely like the other, and in your work, you will experience many beautiful natural places.

Qualifications

You have (requirements):

• Good physical fitness
• Interest in and experience of practical nature conservation work
• Chainsaw license level RA
• Chainsaw license A and B
• Car license B
• Leadership experience including team leadership or project management experience combined with education considered equivalent

We would like you to have (merits):

• Education in leadership
• Chainsaw license C
• Car license BE
• Off-road vehicle operator certificate

To succeed in the assignment, you need to be able to see the big picture and context, be open to change, and see potential in developing the operations. This is evident in how you structure, plan, and carry out our joint assignment together with the group. As a person, you are confident in taking initiative and independently driving the work in dialogue. Being safety-oriented regarding the working environment is a given for you.

In your communication, you are receptive and unpretentious. You are good at creating involvement and good relationships. You have the ability to communicate your message in an easily understandable way, both verbally and in writing.
