We are looking for a substitute art educator (75% employment) who is creative, full of ideas, and able to encourage joy in creation across all age groups. To succeed in this role, you are a team player, constructive, and flexible. You enjoy working with others and strive to integrate and strengthen art pedagogy in everyday life. Together with our skilled guides, you, as the art educator, form the vital link between the institution and the public.

Your responsibilities

Our two art educators jointly develop, plan, and distribute the unit's pedagogical activities. These include art walks, guiding visitors through our current exhibitions, creative schools, workshops, holiday programs, mediation of Halmstad Municipality's art collection, and participation projects for new artistic expressions in the public sphere.

The starting point is to broaden and deepen knowledge about art, as well as to promote creativity and understanding of artists' working processes and techniques. The role involves staying updated on developments within the field of art pedagogy, actively working on method development, and adopting a norm-critical approach to making the art field accessible to more people.

The unit's goal is to make art accessible to the general public as a broad target group, whether dealing with historical art insights or current societal processes depicted through contemporary art. Children and young people are particularly prioritized, and our work includes annual art walks offered to all 5-year-olds in Halmstad Municipality as part of the so-called "Kotte project".

The position is primarily based at Mjellby Art Museum, and includes regular staffing, including weekend duties, at the museum. Mjellby Art Museum has been Halmstadgruppen's museum from the start and focuses heavily on modernism and surrealism in its exhibition program.

As an art educator, you will meet various target groups, so you need to be attentive and able to quickly adapt the situation to needs.

The responsibilities include some administration as well as economic and cross-unit functions.

Your qualifications

We are looking for someone who has:

• An art pedagogical or art historical education, or proven practical experience that the employer deems equivalent for the role
• Good knowledge of artistic materials and techniques
• Good knowledge of museum pedagogy and mediation
• At least one year of experience working with groups and meeting children, young people, adults, and seniors in conversations about art
• Ability to work in a structured and communicative manner
• B-class driver's license

The following are meritorious:

• At least one year of experience in service industry work
• At least one year of experience in administration and planning

Personal qualities are highly valued.

About us

The Art Unit has a broad field of work within art and cultural heritage. The 11 of us who work at the unit are a creative and cheerful group working on everything from complex, cross-administrative art projects in urban development and designed living environments to art in schools and municipal workplaces. We create art experiences for residents of Halmstad and visitors through exhibitions at Mjellby Art Museum, where we manage Halmstadgruppen's cultural heritage and develop the only surrealist museum in the Nordic countries.

To be considered for employment, you must provide an extract from the police's criminal record register for work with children in activities other than school and childcare. The extract is free of charge and takes approximately 2-3 weeks for the police to process.

Interviews are planned for August 20-21 on-site. The recruitment process takes place during the summer holiday period, which means the hiring manager is on leave for part of the application period. For questions, the hiring manager is available July 13-24.
