Job Description
As an employee within the Urban Planning Administration in Vaxholm Municipality, you influence the development of an attractive archipelago community. Together, we are responsible for the entire societal planning process – from planning new residential areas and developing public transport to the operation and maintenance of streets, parks, schools, and other important municipal operations. We are now looking for a Street Engineer. Here, you will have the opportunity to develop in your role while having close access to both colleagues and managers. We value collaboration, engagement, and a desire to constantly improve our operations. The Urban Planning Administration's execution area consists of three units. As a Street Engineer, you will become an important part of the Public Space unit, where you work together with six engaged colleagues responsible for streets, parks, traffic, and other public environments. You report directly to the Head of the Public Space unit.
The street environment, bridges, and public facilities are an important part of Vaxholm's development. As a Street Engineer, you therefore have a broad area of responsibility, including planning, budgeting, execution, and development of the city's public spaces, as well as ensuring compliance with legal requirements within the existing infrastructure.
You work closely with colleagues responsible for land, parks, and traffic and play a central role in creating attractive, safe, and functional public environments. The role involves both strategic and operational work where you act in a client role responsible for operation and maintenance issues, while also participating in the design and implementation of infrastructure projects. The position also involves regularly following up on operations in the field and having many contact points, both internally and externally.
In this recruitment, we collaborate with Randstad, where recruitment consultant Hannah Sandström answers questions about the position ([email protected]). Please note that response times may be longer than usual due to the summer period. Selection and interviews will begin from week 34.
Responsibilities
- Overall operational responsibility for Vaxholm's street issues, which includes operation and investment budgets, planning, and contracts for streets, roads, cycle and pedestrian paths, parking areas, and associated facilities and structures, such as manholes and bridges.
- Responsible for accessibility within the city's road area. This includes ordering, coordinating, and monitoring winter road maintenance, bare-ground cleaning, and ongoing maintenance for street operations.
- Design, project management, and follow-up of projects within the operational area.
- Work with maintenance planning in the city's maintenance plan within your own operational area.
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and follow-ups in the field. Handling excavation permits and post-inspections.
- Process and present cases for committees and other political forums, as well as prepare official letters, decision materials, and statements. Review and respond to consultations within your own operational area.
- Provide advice, information, and service to residents, businesses, and other stakeholders in the municipality.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues within lighting, parks, land use, sports, and traffic, and participate in urban planning projects.
- Work proactively with operational development, e.g., by monitoring routines and improving work processes.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is responsible, structured, and self-initiating. You are good at building relationships and thrive in a role with many contact points. Since the position involves handling both strategic issues and operational tasks, you need to be solution-oriented, flexible, and have good prioritization skills. You appreciate collaboration while feeling secure in driving issues and projects forward independently.
- Hold an engineering degree with a focus on urban planning or similar technical education.
- Have experience working in streets, infrastructure, or public environments.
- Have knowledge of contracting.
- Have good administrative skills and experience working with decision materials and documentation.
- We prefer that you have professional experience in similar tasks.
- Express yourself well in Swedish, both verbally and in writing.
- Hold a valid driver's license (Category B).
Merits
- Experience and knowledge of municipal administration, Public Procurement Act (LOU), and GIS.
- Experience and knowledge of operational work in roads, land, or water and sanitation (VA).
- Experience working in a client role and/or in implementation.
