Clinical microbiology is a county-wide and accredited operation within the Diagnostics Centre at Region Östergötland. Clinical microbiology performs diagnostics on microorganisms that can cause serious infections; bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. To detect pathogens in patient samples, a range of different techniques are used; culturing with the help of, for example, automation robots, detection of antigens, antibodies, or DNA/RNA. We have our own production of culture media. The technical development is high. There is a long research tradition within the laboratory linked to the Faculty of Medicine, Linköping University.

Here, you will be part of a modern and development-oriented workplace where we constantly work on method development, quality improvement, and efficiency. The work is varied, stimulating, and important – with the patient always in focus. • Working in the sample reception area and receiving and registering all samples arriving at the clinic
  • Performing internal and external quality controls

The specific tasks you will have depend on the needs of the operation and your experience. You will have the opportunity to develop in your role and gradually broaden your competence.
