On the Rural Development Department, we work to ensure that the County Administrative Board achieves the goals set out in the government's assignments for the EU's Common Agricultural Policy. We aim to actively contribute to robust and attractive rural areas through good wildlife management and animal welfare, increased sustainable food production, and more competitive businesses.
County Veterinarians are located in the Veterinary and Animal Welfare unit together with animal welfare officers who monitor and ensure good animal welfare in the county.
Job Description
As one of two County Veterinarians, you will jointly be responsible for veterinary matters for the entire county. The tasks are varied and of different nature. A significant part of the work involves administrative duties. Supervision, control, and case processing involve planning, implementation, follow-up, and reporting.
Environmental scanning, information, and collaboration are another part of the work, involving many contacts with other authorities, organizations, operators, veterinarians, and the general public. We offer interesting and varied work where the work is sometimes event-driven.
The tasks include, for example:
- Supervision of animal health personnel
- Control of hygiene in veterinary businesses, farms, and visitor activities with animals
- Control of medicines on farms
- Control of animal by-products (ABP)
- Control of semen collection activities with animals
- Control of horse passports
- Regional responsibility for disease control
- Readiness for infectious diseases in animals and diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans
- Monitoring of control programs for animal diseases
- Act as support in animal welfare cases handled by the unit
- Process animal ban cases
- Food in primary production and coordination of municipal food control
- Veterinary organization during heightened readiness
- Answer questions in veterinary matters both internally and externally
The employment may also include other areas of work within the unit. The work involves some travel to businesses in connection with supervision and may also involve contact with vulnerable people in connection with processing animal ban cases.

Qualifications
We are looking for you who have a Swedish veterinary license. Professional experience in some veterinary area is meritorious. You should also have knowledge of Swedish legislation in the veterinary field. You also have basic knowledge of IT/Office and have good knowledge of the Swedish language, both orally and in writing.

As a person, you need to be receptive, have good communication skills, and be good at expressing yourself both in speech and writing. The work requires good collaboration skills in both internal and external relations and that you are flexible and have an unpretentious approach. You have a good ability to take initiative, be proactive, and carry out your work effectively and independently against set schedules. You have the ability to prioritize even in time-pressured work situations and when conditions change. You work in a structured and legally secure manner and feel comfortable being able to set the demands that are sometimes needed in the work and especially in connection with supervision visits.
It is important that you work according to our vision and the public sector values.
A driver's license for a passenger car is required as travel occurs in the service.
Employment
The employment is a permanent position starting with a six-month probationary period.
At the County Administrative Board, some positions are placed in security classes. This may mean that a security check and register control according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) is carried out before employment.
