The Swedish Schools Inspectorate works for a school system where all children, students, and adult learners receive a high-quality, equitable education and knowledge in an stimulating and safe environment. The Inspectorate covers supervision, quality reviews, and assessment of applications for permits for independent schools. Within the supervision, it is investigated whether schools and principals meet the requirements set out in the state's steering documents.

We are located in Gothenburg, Linköping, Lund, Stockholm, and Umeå. The office in Lund is part of the Southern Region together with the offices in Linköping and Gothenburg. The region has approximately 180 employees. The office is located in central Lund.

If so, we have an interesting position for you. We are looking for a Unit Manager who, with documented skilled leadership, can lead qualified employees, primarily within supervision. The Workplace

The Southern Region consists of nine operational units and a regional staff. The unit is located on Gasverksgatan together with two other units and parts of the region's staff. Approximately 70 people work at the office, where you will lead approximately 16 employees. Close collaboration between unit managers and between the units and the staff is a natural part of daily life at the office. This also includes regional collaboration with unit managers at the offices in Gothenburg and Linköping. Several times a year, all managers at the authority meet in digital and physical meetings where everyone contributes to the authority's development.

Tasks and Responsibilities

As a Unit Manager, you are responsible for the unit's planning, business development, goals, and results. You report to the Regional Manager, participate actively in the leadership of the region, and take responsibility for region-wide strategic issues.

You ensure that resources are used efficiently and that schedules are met. The work involves planning, prioritizing, delegating, and following up on operations with a strong focus on achieving the results expected of the unit. The Unit Manager is responsible for ensuring overall quality assurance of the unit's investigations and decisions as part of qualified legal case handling.

You lead the unit in a clear, trust-building, and confidence-inspiring manner. You are close to the employees, inspire and support them, and provide the conditions for them to develop within their respective assignments and areas of responsibility, so that you can achieve good results together.

Qualifications

  • Several years of documented, good, and current management experience with personnel responsibility within public administration
  • Relevant university degree in law
  • Experience of qualified work within public administration
  • Very good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish

The following are meritorious:

  • Current knowledge of the Swedish education system and school legislation
  • Work experience from a state authority
  • Experience of working with supervision
  • Experience of leading employees with different academic backgrounds and professional experiences.

As a leader, you have the ability to create trust among employees and fellow managers. You convey the authority's choices and working methods to employees in a credible manner. The management role requires the ability to communicate, engage, lead, plan, and collaborate. You need to be secure in your role as a civil servant.

About the Position
