Are you engaged, curious, and looking for a developmental role within control systems and programming in a company striving for a more sustainable world? Then this job might be for you!
Becoming part of the SSAB family means joining us on a journey. A journey that we believe is crucial for the planet's future and sustainability. Steel has been one of the most important materials for our societal development and will continue to be so in the future. In our homes, in bridges connecting our cities, and in tomorrow's cars. At SSAB, we are proud of our history and our leadership in high-strength steel. At the same time, we are aware that steel production is one of the industries with the highest greenhouse gas emissions in the world. This must change. We have therefore developed the world's first fossil-free steel production process and committed ourselves to becoming largely fossil-free. As part of SSAB, you will play a key role in realizing this goal and thus contribute to a green transition of the entire steel industry.
About the role
You will work together with your colleagues on system solutions, including new design and modification/updating of existing control systems, problem-solving, plant development, and commissioning of new machines in our facilities. You will primarily participate in two different workflows in the form of projects and work orders.
Collaboration with the production sections/departments is important, and your most common points of contact will be maintenance technicians, operations technicians, external suppliers, internal staff, and contractors.
You will belong to the Technical Systems section within the Steel Plate Technology department. The group consists of approximately 19 system designers/engineers working on the Rolling Mill's facilities. We work in area groups where mechanical, electrical, and system disciplines collaborate across three different production departments. We offer you developing and stimulating days where you, alone or together with other designers, are responsible for system design and automation of machines and facilities within the Rolling Mill. Here, you will have the opportunity to get close to reality and follow projects from idea to commissioning.
Selection and interviews are conducted continuously, and the position may be filled before the application deadline.
Your main responsibilities
- Drive the development and improvement of automation systems on existing and new facilities.
- Program and troubleshoot in SSAB's own developed system, ProviewR.
- Program PLC control systems such as Siemens SIMATIC S7.
- Project planning, development, and design of control systems for machines at our facilities.
- Conduct risk assessments and orders related to work orders/projects.
- Assist in the development of facilities and working methods.
- Commissioning of new machines and facilities.
- Support operations/maintenance with technical assistance and support.
- Conduct testing and validation of system designs.
About you
- You have at least a 2-year higher education as an Automation Engineer, or alternatively a vocational education or mechanical engineering education with a focus on automation technology or equivalent experience.
- We value professional experience such as automation designer and drive systems. We consider it a strong merit if you have experience from the manufacturing or process industry.
- Experience in programming PLCs and industrial safety control systems such as ABB Pluto.
- Experience with C/C++ is a plus.
- You thrive on technical challenges, have the ability to quickly grasp complex problems, and are solution-oriented in your work.
- You plan and organize your own work, are driven, and have the ability to make independent decisions.
- Good teamwork skills are important. You have an open approach, are receptive, and adapt solutions to emerging needs.
- You speak fluent Swedish and English and have good verbal and written communication skills.
