My name is Pernilla Fahlstedt and I am the section manager for the Environmental Protection Unit at the Building and Environment Administration in Halmstad. As an environmental inspector, you play an important role in society, where every day brings new challenges – from rewarding supervisory visits out in operations to strategic work at the office. In your work, you are an important advisor and dialogue partner for businesses and operations. You help them do the right thing and build long-term relationships, while also reviewing, setting relevant requirements, and following up to ensure the operation is doing its part.

Your responsibilities

As an environmental inspector, you combine advisory work with supervisory visits and follow-up controls. You work in a varied and independent manner, planning, prioritizing, and driving your own cases forward in an efficient and legally secure way.

You conduct on-site inspections at businesses, write inspection reports, make administrative decisions, and formulate orders and prohibitions when necessary. You provide information, advice, and guidance to operators and the general public.

Your qualifications

We are looking for you who have a relevant university education, for example within environmental and health protection. Other university education may also be relevant depending on the focus of the position.

We are looking for two inspectors with a focus on environmental protection, and there are good opportunities to adapt the position to your knowledge. We would appreciate it if you have experience working with contaminated areas, industrial supervision, or private sewage systems.

Since the role involves exercising public authority, high demands are placed on objectivity, communication, and professional treatment. You have the ability to explain complex laws in a pedagogical way and treat people professionally and empathetically while upholding legal certainty and objectivity.

Since the position involves travel between different locations, a valid driver's license (Category B) is required.

Previous experience in administrative work and supervision is meritorious.

To thrive in the role, you need to have good communicative and pedagogical skills as well as a desire to provide high service. You enjoy collaborating with others, while also being self-reliant and taking initiative.
