Description

We are now looking for an Artistic Director who wants to lead the artistic development of Gothenburg City Theatre and contribute to the theatre's continued role as one of the country's most significant cultural institutions. As Artistic Director, you will play a central role in shaping the theatre's artistic direction and strengthening its relevance locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.

You lead the artistic department and are responsible for developing the theatre's artistic vision, profile, and repertoire based on the theatre's mission, goals, and business plan. The role entails a significant mandate to put your mark on one of Sweden's leading dramatic theatres and to translate artistic ideas into repertoire, productions, and long-term development.

You are responsible for assembling the artistic teams for productions and lead various artistic and strategic forums. In close collaboration with the Production Manager, you work with production planning, resource allocation, and production budgets. Together with the Marketing Manager and Restaurant Manager, you contribute to developing the theatre's holistic experience and offerings, with the goal of strengthening the audience's encounter with Gothenburg City Theatre.

In close collaboration with the CEO, you contribute to strengthening and developing the theatre's profile and position. You play a key role in the theatre's strategic development and work closely with other managers to create good conditions for artistic quality, sustainable planning, and continued development. You also actively contribute to the theatre's sustainability work through Theatre Green Book and advocate for equal treatment, diversity, and inclusion as a natural part of the operations and artistic work.

As Artistic Director, you report to the CEO and are also an active resource in the company's strategic work.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a university education in the field of performing arts or equivalent. You also have education in or experience of leadership. Education in working environment, sustainability, and equal treatment is meritorious.

To succeed in the role, you have experience of a leading position within artistic activities with good results and have been responsible for repertoire, budget, personnel, and working environment. You are familiar with the theatre's processes and ways of working. Experience from a politically governed organization is meritorious, as is experience of directing.

You have a strong artistic vision and the ability to anchor it in the operations. The vision includes a clear artistic profile that stems from the theatre's mission and directives and influences both our stages and the theatre's development and positioning in a broader context. You are communicative and engaging and have the ability to create participation and motivation in the organization. You enjoy driving development and change together with others and have a good ability to balance artistic development with the organization's economic prerequisites.

You spread joy in work, value participation, and contribute to a culture characterized by trust and collaboration. You have a pedagogical, process-oriented, and inclusive leadership style. You have a holistic view, are goal- and result-oriented, and have good self-awareness regarding strengths and areas for development in your own leadership.

What can we offer you?

We want to welcome you to an engaged workplace in constant motion. Together with the theatre's other employees, you will become part of a professional and creative work with the goal of creating and conveying high-quality theatre. Gothenburg City Theatre is in an exciting phase of development. As our next Artistic Director, you will have a significant mandate to shape the theatre's artistic direction and contribute to the development of one of Sweden's leading cultural institutions over the next four years.
