We are now looking for a Department Manager in Mechanics at Muskövarvet – a central and responsible role in a technologically advanced and security-classified environment. As Department Manager, you are responsible for leading, planning, and developing the operations within your department, with full responsibility for personnel, working environment, technology, and results.

The role involves close collaboration with the Production Manager and other Department Managers. You have a clear mandate to make decisions within established financial frameworks and are expected to actively contribute to both the department's and the company's overall improvement efforts.

The position is both strategic and operational, where you combine leadership with technical preparation and presence in the operations. You play a key role in ensuring that work is carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable laws, agreements, and internal guidelines.

Note:

Muskövarvet is a security-protected workplace. This means you must be a Swedish citizen, have a clean criminal record, and be able to pass a security clearance with register check according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585).

As Department Manager, you are responsible for planning, leading, and monitoring the daily operations within your department.

You have delegated personnel responsibility, which includes:

• Supervision and staffing of approximately 8–12 people.
• Daily dialogue, follow-up, and support to employees.
• Handling of absence, rehabilitation, and any workplace adjustments.
• Conducting employee interviews, salary negotiations, and competence development.

An important part of the role is to create clarity regarding expectations and tasks, as well as to contribute to good cooperation and a secure working climate within the department.

You are also responsible for technical preparation within your area of operations. This involves participating in cost calculations, cost and time assessments, and producing clear work descriptions and instructions.

The responsibility for working environment and the environment is a central part of the position. You are responsible for ensuring that systematic working environment work is carried out continuously within the department, including risk assessments, permits for hot work, and follow-up of working environment rounds. You ensure that employees are given the opportunity to participate in working environment work and that applicable laws, regulations, and instructions are followed.

In cases of obstacles, risks, or situations where the task cannot be performed safely or correctly, you are responsible for initiating measures or, if necessary, reporting the task back in writing to the Production Manager.

You actively participate in the budgeting process for your own department and are responsible for ensuring that operations are conducted within established financial frameworks. Any deviations or deficiencies are reported to the Production Manager as soon as they are discovered.

Working hours: Mon–Thu 07:00–16:00, Fri 07:00–13:30

You are a confident, clear, and responsible leader with the ability to combine structure with sensitivity. You have a natural focus on safety, quality, and order, and understand the importance of working according to established routines, especially in a security-classified environment.

You thrive in a role with significant responsibility and are comfortable making decisions, handling deviations, and driving improvement work. At the same time, you are unpretentious and present in the operations, with the ability to create trust and engagement among your employees.

• Experience in a leadership position within industrial or technical operations.
• Experience in personnel responsibility and working environment work.
• Good technical understanding.
• Experience in planning, follow-up, and documentation.
• Good computer skills.

• Technical post-secondary education.
• Experience in technical preparation, costing, or project work.
• Experience from workshops, shipyard operations, or the defense industry.
• Knowledge of labor law or HR-related issues.

Muskövarvet AB is a sought-after and recognized maintenance and repair shipyard established in 2005 and since 2018 part of the defense group Saab. The operations are mainly carried out in the Naval Base at Muskö, approximately 60 km south of Stockholm.
