European Spallation Source (ESS) is soon to become the world's most powerful neutron source, providing researchers with unique opportunities to investigate material structures at the atomic level. Through neutron scattering, ESS contributes to research in physics, chemistry, geology, materials science, and life sciences.
About the role:
As ESS approaches stable operations, we are looking for an Electronics Technician to join our Radio Frequency (RF) group. The RF group is part of the Accelerator Division and is responsible for defining, designing, installing, commissioning, and maintaining the complex systems and amplifiers required for the operation of our particle accelerator.
We are looking for someone who wants to work with testing, operation, and maintenance of high-performance amplifiers, power supplies, and electronic systems. You will work closely with other members of the RF group and contribute to both joint projects and your own short- and long-term tasks.
The work is largely focused on electronics and RF technology, but above all, we are looking for a versatile and practical technician who is curious to learn new things and thrives with varied tasks.
In your daily work, you will:
- Participate in the electrical and mechanical installation of RF systems, including rack-mounted components, cabling, and assembly.
- Read, maintain, and update electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Perform component testing upon delivery, after installation, and during operation.
- Follow established procedures and document results.
- Work with RF, electronic, and mechanical activities within your area of expertise.
- Perform system tests and troubleshooting.
- Solder, shrink, and perform simple mechanical machining for the manufacturing and repair of electronic subsystems and circuits.
- Participate in component repairs.
The position is a permanent placement at the ESS facility in Lund. The role is not a shift work position, but work at other times and on-call duties may occur as needed.
About you:
We are looking for a qualified, practical, and self-motivated person who enjoys collaborating and supporting colleagues, but can also take responsibility for their own tasks. Experience with the installation, commissioning, and operation of complex systems is important, preferably within high-frequency or high-power systems.
ESS has one of Europe's largest RF installations with more than 150 high-performance amplifiers, over 400 electronic racks, and extensive systems for RF distribution, power supply, control, and safety functions.
The operation of ESS depends on RF systems with very high reliability and availability. Therefore, we are looking for someone who works systematically, has a strong focus on quality, and understands the importance of safety in daily work.
We believe you are a positive and proactive person who is eager to learn new things and engage in the operations. We are looking for someone who has:
- Good knowledge of mechanics, electricity, cabling, and installation.
- Education and experience in electrical installation and electrical safety.
- Ability to read, understand, and create electrical schematics using EPLAN, AutoCAD, or similar tools.
- Experience in troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Practical experience working with electronics, electronic racks, cabling, and wiring.
- Experience with testing and measurement methods, including the use of multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other test equipment.
- Good teamwork skills and enjoys working in a team.
The official working language at ESS is English, so you must be comfortable communicating in English in your daily work.
How to apply:
Working at ESS gives you the opportunity to contribute to future discoveries in neutron science in a modern and international work environment with innovative ideas and colleagues from around the world. We offer market-based and individual salary setting based on role, responsibility, competence, experience, and performance, as well as pension contributions in addition to your base salary.
If you see yourself in what we are looking for, you are welcome to send your CV and cover letter in English by clicking "Apply" and following the instructions. Please note that we only accept applications submitted via the ESS website.
