Research Engineer in Flight Signatures

Are you interested in technology and defense? Do you want to work in a high-competence environment on exciting projects within defense and security technology? We are looking for someone who wants to understand the connection between today's technological development and future applications.

As a Research Engineer in this field, your primary responsibilities will include method development, calculations, and analyses to enhance the capability to simulate the infrared signatures of flying vehicles. The work involves both proprietary and commercial computational tools and analysis chains. Flight signatures is a multidisciplinary technical area, which entails complexity and many interesting physical connections and questions.

Results from the analyses are used, among other things, as a basis for assessing the signature adaptation and performance of flying vehicles. The work is carried out in collaboration with other flight and signature-related activities at FOI.

The position is located in Kista, Stockholm.

About the Unit

Within the Flight Technology unit, part of Defense Technology, work is conducted that combines a system perspective with flight technology disciplines such as fluid dynamics and flight mechanics, structural and materials technology, and more. The work aims to analyze the performance and capability of current systems and to develop and evaluate new concepts for future defense, with the long-term goal of increasing the air force's defense capability. The work is carried out in close collaboration with the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), as well as in international cooperation.

Do you have the competence profile we need?

Requirements

We are looking for someone who:

  • holds a Master of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent, or will complete their studies by autumn prior to employment,
  • has good knowledge of signal processing, modeling, and computational techniques,
  • has good programming skills,
  • has excellent communication skills in both spoken and written Swedish and English.

As a person, you have strong analytical skills and are adept at translating theory into practice and contextualizing problems. You can quickly absorb information and understand new areas, and you thrive working both independently and in teams. We value initiative and a goal- and results-oriented mindset. Personal qualities are highly valued.

Merits

The following qualifications are considered merits:

  • experience with image analysis,
  • industry experience within the aviation or defense sector,
  • experience with signal processing and spectral analysis related to flight applications.

This is a permanent position that may begin with a six-month probationary period.
