About the workplace
The Department for Children and Young People brings together the social services' tasks for children and young people – from preventive work to authority functions and operational activities. This allows for strategic, long-term, and operationally close work. The department is led by a department manager and nine unit managers, supported by business developers and administration. The department is one of nine within the Social Services, which includes individual and family care, elderly care, and support for people with disabilities.
The goal of the operations is to provide the right intervention at the right time, with good quality and cost-effectiveness. The individual is at the center, and interventions should be coordinated and cross-boundary. The social services are investing in welfare technology and increased digitalization to meet future challenges.
In this role, you work closely with other administrations based on the concept of "the child all day, every week," with the goal that children can grow up at home with good living conditions and achieve the school's goals.
Responsibilities
- You are part of the administration management team together with the other department managers of the social services and work for a holistic perspective, common goals, quality, and development.
- You lead the department's management group and have overall responsibility for operations, economy, personnel, and working environment. The work includes goal and assignment management, follow-up, and evaluation.
- The assignment includes driving a knowledge-based and systematic development and quality work that creates engagement, a good working environment, and high quality.
The operations face major challenges as more and more people need access to the social services' support interventions. This places high demands on the development of the operations, that we dare to review working methods, organization, and processes to be able to meet future requirements for good and quality care even if there are fewer of us to meet the needs. In this, the transition to the new social services act, digitalization, and increased collaboration with civil society will be decisive factors.
Who we are looking for
As a person, you are courageous, engaged, empathetic, and unpretentious. You dare to think new thoughts and have an interest in the target group as well as in societal development within the area. You have an easy time making contacts and see the operations from a holistic perspective. The role places high demands on collaboration and cooperation with other operations and professions, both internally and externally. Great importance is attached to personal suitability.
Qualifications
- You have a degree in social work or equivalent.
- You have experience from the social services' authority functions and are familiar with current legislation and its application.
- You have experience of having been a manager within one of the department's operational areas.
- You are confident in your leadership, structured, and responsive.
- You have the ability to start and complete activities and achieve results in order to meet the challenges and changes that the operations face.
- You have experience of working with given goals and economic frameworks.
Merits
Background with experience from several of the department's operational areas, both authority and operational activities, as well as experience of having been a manager of managers, is meritorious.

As a first step in the selection process, digital speed interviews will be held on August 17, 2026, in the afternoon. Candidates who move forward will then be invited to in-depth interviews on the afternoon of August 26, 2026, and on the morning of August 28, 2026. Tests will be conducted in connection with this recruitment.

For other employment within the social services administration, the extract Control of own information is requested.
If the extract is not digital, it must be brought in an unopened envelope in connection with the control.

Employment takes place subject to the necessary decisions being made. For positions where the work involves direct and regular contact with children and young people, as well as for operations within LSS (Act concerning Support and Service for Persons with Certain Functional Impairments), care and nursing, health and medical care, psychiatric care, and addiction care, a valid extract from the police's criminal record register must be shown or submitted prior to employment.
