University of Borås offers more than just a job – here you have the opportunity to influence and contribute to development. We want you to feel good both at and outside of work. Therefore, we offer flexible working hours, a generous holiday agreement, and favorable conditions for parental leave. There are also opportunities for competence development through international exchanges with other higher education institutions and organizations. With our central location, you are close to the city's amenities and have good commuting options.

Your role at DoTank Center

This recruitment aims to strengthen and develop operations with innovation technologies related to DoTank Center. Currently, the DoTank team consists of five employees with expertise in materials, construction, design, and IT. The demand for IT, digitalization, and automation is increasing, and the operations need further strengthening to meet the need for technical support, particularly in textile applications. The role involves practical and experimental work where you develop and build prototypes by combining AI, software, and physical equipment (machinery, sensors, and robotics) to solve new problems within the textile field. In this role, you will sometimes collaborate with researchers and educational staff at the University of Borås.

We are looking for someone who thrives in an experimental and iterative way of working, where you continuously test, evaluate, and improve solutions in practice. You have a strong curiosity and are driven to explore untested ideas and technologies, even when the path forward is not entirely clear. The role involves working in an environment characterized by uncertainty and rapid changes, which requires you to be flexible, solution-oriented, and confident in making decisions with limited information. You have a pronounced “builder mindset” and are motivated by turning ideas into working prototypes and concrete solutions.

Examples of applications in the role may include developing systems related to the automatic sorting of textiles. It may also involve sensor-based analysis of material quality to enable more precise decisions in reuse and recycling processes. Furthermore, the work may include developing AI-based solutions that support circular flows and more efficient resource use, as well as building and integrating automated testing and production solutions where software, data, and physical equipment interact.

Your responsibilities

  • Develop solutions at DoTank Center, which is a meeting place for companies, researchers, non-profit actors, and civil society
  • Design, build, and test prototypes that combine AI, sensors, and machinery
  • Develop AI models (e.g., computer vision) for textile applications
  • Work practically in the lab/workshop with 3D printing, electronics, and automation
  • Connect hardware and software (e.g., sensors + ML models + control systems)
  • Rapidly iterate from idea to test to prototype to packaging
  • Explore new technical solutions where established methods are lacking
  • Collaborate with projects at Science Park Borås and relevant stakeholders such as companies, researchers, students, and public actors
  • Participate in visits and events that promote the innovation environment
  • Contribute to creating proactivity and inspire daring and willingness to design for circularity.

Your qualifications

The role requires broad and versatile experience in several technical areas. You have experience with prototyping in a lab or maker environment, as well as broad experience with hardware such as Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, sensors, control systems, and embedded systems with serial communication and real-time control, including PLC programming. You also have practical experience in hardware-software integration, including the connection between physical systems and backend services, for example via MQTT, REST, and various IoT protocols. Furthermore, you have experience with machine learning and computer vision with a focus on industrial application, as well as experience implementing AI models in practical systems, including data pipelines with InfluxDB, OPC UA, and EtherCAT.

In addition, you have programming skills in Python and are flexible and solution-oriented, with the ability to turn ideas into working prototypes. You work independently but also have good collaboration skills and experience working in cross-functional teams.

Meritorious:

  • Real-time data as edge computing
  • Knowledge of the Global Goals in relation to digitalization, textiles, and fashion
