VTS Operator, fixed-term contract until the turn of the year
based in Malmö
Working as a VTS Operator at the Swedish Maritime Administration
The Swedish Maritime Administration offers safe and modern sea routes with 24/7 service. We have an exciting operation with many interesting and developing roles. If you are interested in making a difference and contributing to both environmental protection and safety, then working as a VTS Operator is for you.
As a VTS Operator, you work with modern technology to monitor and provide vessels with information about traffic conditions, any errors in navigational aids, other obstacles in the waterways, and relevant traffic information for vessels in the Øresund Strait. You are thus a crucial part of the work to minimize the risk of maritime and environmental accidents and incidents in the area. You will work with the Soundrep vessel reporting system, a collaboration between Sweden and Denmark. Your tools include a VTS system with AIS and radar information, VHF radio, and computer.
The VTS center is located in the Öresundshuset building in Malmö, and the staff is both Swedish and Danish. A fixed schedule applies, with work performed in blocks with longer periods of leave between work periods. Overnight accommodation is available.
Who are you?
We are looking for someone who holds a Master Mariner certificate and has current experience as a watchkeeping officer. You must have good proficiency in both Swedish and English, in speaking and writing. The work is performed at irregular hours, both day and night, and a valid medical certificate for seafarers or another certificate ensuring fitness for night work is required prior to employment.
We will place great emphasis on your personal qualities. The role involves many external and internal contacts, making openness, service orientation, communication skills, and teamwork very important. You must also have good planning and multitasking abilities and be detail-oriented.
