Description
The mission of the Environment and Climate Committee is to lead the city's environmental work and the protection of human health and the environment. In practice, this means that the Environmental Administration drives and coordinates the city's work within the ecological dimension of sustainable development, supporting and promoting the implementation of the city's environmental and climate programs and the use of the city's environmental management system. Additionally, in our authority role, we are responsible for supervision, examination, and control according to, among other things, the Environmental Code, as well as the Food, Alcohol, and Tobacco Acts. Job Responsibilities
Do you want to work for a sustainable city and a good living environment in Gothenburg? We at the Environmental Strategy Department drive and coordinate the ecological dimension of sustainable development in the City of Gothenburg. The goal is for Gothenburg to be an ecologically sustainable city by 2030. We drive, coordinate, and monitor several of the City of Gothenburg's strategic programs and action plans. The department is also responsible for environmental monitoring in several areas and contributes to the City of Gothenburg's planning and building permit process. We produce decision support materials for politics based on the latest knowledge in the environmental field, from research, environmental monitoring, and our own analyses. We collaborate with other municipalities, authorities, academia, and business, as well as drive and participate in various development projects.
The department has fifty-five employees. To create the best possible conditions for a good work environment, with fewer employees per manager, and to strengthen the department's strategic capability, we are moving from three to five units at the turn of the year. We are now seeking three new unit managers in three separate advertisements.

As a unit manager, you lead around thirteen engaged and qualified employees with high competence and long experience in various areas. Together, you monitor the environmental status of the city and drive and coordinate the City of Gothenburg's work within the ecological dimension of sustainable development with a focus on ecology and water issues.

As a unit manager, you are responsible for:
You are the direct manager for the unit's employees and you are responsible for operations, personnel, economy, and work environment. You are part of the department's management group and develop the department's operations together with the department manager and your fellow unit managers. Within the department, many issues and areas are handled in close collaboration between several units, and often also with other operations. Therefore, you need to be able to see the big picture and balance the unit's needs with the department's needs.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have a relevant university degree in the natural science environmental field. You have experience working as a manager or in another leadership function, preferably in a politically governed organization. You have experience of development and/or change work with a focus on operational processes and organization, and you have strategic knowledge and experience in the environmental field. Work experience in environmental monitoring is meritorious.
Your personal competencies are crucial for succeeding in the role of unit manager, and therefore we see that you can effectively identify and analyze the core of a problem and propose possible solutions. In your daily work, you identify opportunities for change and create situations where new ideas and proposals can be developed.
Receptiveness is a prerequisite for succeeding in the role, and therefore we see that you have the ability to listen to other people with the aim of understanding their needs. You work for cohesion in the work group and see failures as something to learn from and create space for dialogue.
You are motivated by clearly defined goals and have the ability to transform these into concrete action. With a focus on the goal, you can reprioritize work when conditions or needs change. You monitor and report results and goal achievement. You can add enthusiasm and energy through persuasive arguments that encourage good performance, team spirit, and increased motivation. You stand by decisions made and can convey uncomfortable messages when necessary.

Selection will take place continuously, so we want your application as soon as possible, but no later than August 2nd. We will conduct the first round of interviews during week 33. If you are called for an interview, we would like you to be able to show a copy of your educational certificate and a certificate confirming your previous employment before the interview.
We apply the City of Gothenburg's leadership criteria in the assessment of applicants. Final candidates will undergo a full-day test at the City of Gothenburg's Assessment Center.
