We are now looking for an Environmental Officer for the environmental function within the Garrison Support Unit at Norrbotten Regiment I 19 in Boden. Here, you will have the opportunity to work broadly within the environmental field together with engaged colleagues in an operation that places high demands on responsibility, collaboration, and development.

About Us

The Garrison Support Unit belongs to Norrbotten Regiment and is responsible for support in areas such as environmental work, exercise activities, service, security, and administrative functions. The environmental function within the Garrison Support Unit is responsible for supporting the Swedish Armed Forces' operations in the environmental field and ensuring that the operations are conducted in accordance with current environmental legislation.

Main Responsibilities

As an Environmental Officer, you will work with supporting the garrison and its units in environmental matters, as well as contributing to ensuring that the operations meet the requirements of current environmental legislation, such as the Environmental Code along with associated ordinances and regulations, and internal governing documents. The tasks may develop over time and can include, for example:

  • Support in matters related to chemicals, waste, and environmentally hazardous activities.
  • Processing of cases within physical planning and national interest monitoring.
  • Work with land access and land damage remediation during exercises on civil land, as well as processing of spill-related cases.
  • Support in environmental matters within the framework of exercise planning and execution of exercises.
  • Processing within Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Contact with the Swedish Armed Forces' supervisory authority and other external actors.
  • Participation in supervision, inspections, and internal audits.
  • Conducting environmental training, for example before exercises, for managers, or for newly hired personnel within the garrison.

You will work closely with the operations and be part of a team together with other environmental officers and environmental coordinators. The position also involves support to Boden Artillery Regiment A 8 and Northern Military Region MR N.

Official travel with overnight stays may occur.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications

  • Academic university or college education in, for example, environmental science, biology, environmental law, or other education that the employer deems equivalent.
  • Good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish and English.
  • Category B driver's license.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience from the Swedish Armed Forces or other operations within the defense sector.
  • Experience of qualified environmental work, preferably within public operations or authorities.
  • Knowledge of environmental and chemical legislation.
  • Experience of working with environmentally hazardous activities and supervision.
  • Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Knowledge of land damage remediation.

Other

Employment type: Permanent position, civilian post. The Swedish Armed Forces apply a six-month probation period if you are not already employed by the authority.

I 19 is one of Sweden's largest regiments with operations in Boden, Kiruna, Tåme, and Grubbnäsudden/Lomben. The headquarters and leadership of the regiment are located in Boden. The regiment's most important task is to build combat units, and in the coming years, I 19 will gradually develop the new Norrbotten Brigade. By 2028, the regiment should be able to train, store, and mobilize the entire brigade, including the associated functional units; command, field works, air defense, and logistics. The brigade should be able to conduct combat in all environments but be specialized for combat in the subarctic environment of the North Calotte.

The Swedish Armed Forces' Winter Unit is also located at the regiment, with the task of coordinating and supporting the development of the Swedish Armed Forces' winter capability. The conscript education is conducted at Norrbotten Armoured Battalion, which is responsible for training and maintaining units for the Norrbotten Brigade. The regiment also consists of the regimental staff, Defence Health, the Garrison Support Unit, the Logistics Unit, and the Local Planning Unit.
