About the Swedish Prison and Probation Service
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the agency responsible for prisons, probation services, remand centers, and client transport.
The Saltvik Business Area includes the prisons in Saltvik, Härnösand, and Ljustadalen, as well as the Saltvik remand center. The business area offers a wide variety, ranging from the open women's prison in Ljustadalen to the closed prison in Saltvik, which, in addition to regular wards, houses one of the country's three security units. The Härnösand prison is also a closed facility. The largest professional group is prison officers, but healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production managers, and others also work here. Inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or work in the prisons' packaging/assembly, laundry, or woodworking departments. You can easily reach the Saltvik prison and remand center by bus or car, with parking available at our staff parking lot. The Härnösand prison is located in the town center with good bus connections and staff parking. The Ljustadalen prison is located just outside Birsta and also offers staff parking and good bus connections.
