Meal service in Umeå Municipality includes the preparation and serving of lunches in preschools, primary and secondary schools, restaurants, as well as to several units within the elderly care sector. Our task is to provide good service and healthy, nutritious meals for our diners, and to work together with staff in schools and care facilities to create an understanding of the importance of food for good health and well-being. Through public meal services, we contribute to good public health and sustainable development.

The Väst-Teg kitchen is located at Väst-Teg Care and Support Housing in Umeå – a modern facility with 120 places. The kitchen has newly built and spacious premises and is the only kitchen in Umeå that prepares meals for customers in ordinary housing. Here, we also prepare lunch and dinner for our 120 residents on-site, seven days a week.

We are now looking for you who want to become part of our team! Starting in July, we need to strengthen our workforce with a cook. With us, you will have a workplace with a strong focus on well-being, good collaboration, and creating meals that make a difference for our guests – every day.

Your main responsibilities:

• Be responsible for leading and planning kitchen operations to ensure they run satisfactorily in accordance with the Meal Service business plan and policy documents.
• Plan and prepare tasty meals, including special diets and diet-adjusted food.
• Administer meal orders and handle purchases, invoices, and goods receipt.
• Maintain the kitchen and equipment in top condition – including dishwashing and maintenance.
• Maintain daily contact with colleagues and elderly residents, both in the building (Väst-Teg) and at home.
• Pack and present the food in an appealing way in meal boxes.
• Fill in at other kitchens if needed.

Heavy lifting occurs at the workplace.

About you

We are looking for someone with documented cook training or other education considered equivalent. You have previous experience working as a cook. Experience working with public meals is considered an advantage. Furthermore, you have a good ability to express yourself in Swedish, both orally and in writing, to ensure clear and safe communication and routines.

As a person, you are structured and have good collaboration skills. In your work, you take responsibility and come up with initiatives for continuous improvement. Naturally, you have a genuine interest in food. You have communicative skills and a professional attitude towards colleagues, partners, and those we serve – our elderly. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

A certificate of good conduct (extract from the police record) must be presented upon employment, in accordance with the Act on Suitability Control.
