Your Responsibilities

As a lock keeper, you have a responsible and fun role where you ensure that both safety and service are of the highest standard. You will be stationed at one of our lines of locks or bridges and are responsible for operating them. In dialogue with your colleagues, you ensure that boat traffic flows smoothly and that the canal has the correct water level. You will act as an ambassador for the Göta Canal and make a significant impact on every guest's experience. Seasonal Employment

The position is a seasonal employment during the period June 16 – August 12. The employment period lasts between 6 and 9 weeks, and you need to be available for work throughout this period. There is also an opportunity to apply for extended employment during the Göta Canal's post-season, from August 13 to September 27, depending on wishes and needs. If you are interested in working during the post-season, please mention this in your application.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for you who have a positive attitude, are communicative, and enjoy meeting new people. You speak fluent Swedish and English, and knowledge of German is a plus! It is a requirement that you are a competent swimmer, and if you have experience or interest in boating, it is a big plus. If you have previous service experience and hold a B-driving license with access to your own car, this is also advantageous for commuting easily and smoothly. Other means of transport are also highly meritorious as public transport may be limited.

The Recruitment Process – Step by Step

We are glad that you are interested in becoming part of our team! Here are the different steps in the recruitment process:

Step 1 – Service Test
When you submit your application, you will gain access to a service test via your profile on StudentConsulting. You will find the test under the "TESTS" tab on their website. By completing the test, you get the opportunity to move forward in the recruitment process and show us your skills.

Step 2 – Phone Interview
After you have completed the service test, we will contact you for a phone interview. This is a good opportunity for us to get to know you better and for you to ask questions about the position and the work at the Göta Canal.

Step 3 – Reference Check
If you move on to the next step, we will send out a digital reference check. You will be asked to provide 2 references from previous work. At least one must be a former manager. We recommend that you prepare your reference persons in advance so they know we will be contacting them. We will also ask for consent for a background check.

Step 4 – Digital Interview
In June, we will hold digital interviews. Both SC and Göta Canal will participate in the interviews. This gives us the opportunity to meet you in more detail and discuss your background and motivation for the position. You will also receive more information about the role and the work environment.

Step 5 – Employment Offer
In June, after the digital interviews, we will offer employment to the candidates we believe will be the best fit for the position. This is the final part of the selection process, and we look forward to welcoming you on board for the 2026 season!

Step 6 – Training
On June 14, a mandatory training day will be held in Motala, where we prepare you for your role and give you all the necessary information to do a fantastic job. During the training, you will also get the chance to meet your future colleagues and feel well-prepared for the summer season.
