Workplace Description

Do you want to become our new System Developer? The position is linked to the IT Department, one of the University Library's seven departments. The IT Department is an agile and learning unit responsible for the development and operation of library-related systems at Lund University. The department currently has nine employees and works in close collaboration with operations and users. Our systems and services are either self-developed or based on open source. The department's mandate includes both system development and operations, i.e., support and administration of systems, applications, and infrastructure. Currently, we primarily work with PHP, Perl, and Python.

Employees in the IT Department also actively participate in several cross-departmental projects, together with colleagues from other departments or libraries.

We now need to strengthen our competence, primarily in system development, and we are looking for you who want to participate in the development of our library-related systems and processes. The IT Department currently has its own physical and virtual servers and administers them. Therefore, some server administration is also included.

Tasks and Responsibilities

In collaboration with colleagues in the IT team and in close dialogue with operations, you will contribute to the development of sustainable, high-quality systems. You will share experiences and knowledge regarding methods, programming languages, applications, and other tools, contributing to the team's learning. You will actively participate in the team's agile processes.

You will:

  • Work with system development
  • Contribute to relevant technical environmental scanning, especially within open source and machine learning applications
  • Contribute to the IT team's knowledge sharing and learning
  • Work with documentation, version control, and system testing
  • Participate in the IT team's agile processes
  • Provide support in relevant system matters
  • Participate in the work of administering and maintaining existing systems and infrastructure

Qualifications

You must have the ability to see the big picture and understand how different parts of technical solutions fit together.

As a person, you should be proactive, curious, and creative. You have a desire to try new technical solutions and tools, and are willing to develop your skills when needed.

You should have good collaboration skills and a willingness to participate in processes that move the entire team forward. Recent graduates are welcome to apply.

Requirements for the position are:

  • Relevant university education (three years or longer) in system development, system architecture, computer science, or equivalent
  • Good knowledge of PHP and modern programming principles
  • Good knowledge of object-oriented programming
  • Knowledge of applied machine learning
  • Experience with database management and version control, as well as work in a Linux environment
  • Knowledge of server administration
  • Very good ability to communicate orally and in writing in Swedish and English
  • Very good collaboration skills

Merits for the position are:

  • Knowledge of and experience with programming in Python
  • Knowledge of or experience with working with library-related systems
  • Knowledge of applied AI and usability/User Experience (UX)
  • Interest in project work
  • Interest in agile methods

Other Information

The position is a permanent full-time position (100%). Commencement by agreement, preferably as soon as possible. Probationary employment may apply.

The University Library at Lund University is a multidisciplinary library based on extensive collections of both printed and electronic material. The library also offers a study environment with approximately 400 reading places. The University Library has approximately 100 employees.
