Occupational Therapist in Primary Care – Where Everyday Life Really Counts

As a beloved colleague is leaving us after many years, we are now looking for you who is an expert in the most important thing there is – people's everyday lives. Here it is not just about diagnoses, but about getting life to work again.

A typical day might start with a meeting with a person who has recently suffered from hand pain and can no longer manage their job or morning routines. You analyze, test, try out assistive devices, and find solutions that allow them to button their jacket, cook a meal, or return to work. Small things – that make a big difference.

The next patient you might meet at home. You make a home visit to an elderly person who is starting to struggle with self-care and risks needing to move out of their home. You go through the apartment together, look at obstacles and opportunities, and suggest adaptations – perhaps a grab handle in the shower, a shower chair, or a rearrangement of furniture that makes daily life smoother. With the right measures, the person can continue to live independently in their own environment – safely and with preserved quality of life.

In primary care, the breadth is what makes the job both challenging and enjoyable. You meet:

  • people with orthopedic problems
  • patients after neurological diseases
  • stress-related ill health
  • elderly people who need support to stay at home

You alternate between individual visits and teamwork with physiotherapists and dietitians. There is room to think creatively and find solutions that fit this specific person – not "a standard patient".

And perhaps the best part – you often see the results quickly. When someone tells you they managed to go shopping alone again, could return to work, or have the energy for family life – then you know your work made a real difference.

In short: Being an occupational therapist in primary care is a varied, independent, and meaningful job where you help people get their everyday lives back – on their own terms.

You, as a licensed occupational therapist, who is attracted by the opportunities and variation that working in primary care entails, are welcome to apply for the position with us.

In more detail, the work involves:

Activity and function assessment/examination/training, advice and support regarding self-care, prescription of assistive devices, and information about products and technology, assessment of housing and surrounding environment, and environment-oriented measures such as housing adaptations. Collaborate with other healthcare providers, supervise and support relatives and care staff.

At the clinic, we work with patients with hand-related problems both individually and in groups, perform work capacity assessments, dementia investigations, and patient education.

We offer

  • An engaged team and close, supportive leadership
  • Flexible working hours with a good balance between work and private life
  • Good opportunities to influence operations and develop in the role
  • A stable and well-functioning clinic with clear routines
  • Generous wellness allowance, collective agreement, and good opportunities for competence development

Qualifications
