The Department of Diagnostics and Intervention is advertising a doctoral position in medical science within the research area of medicine. The employment period is four years, full-time, starting on 2026-09-01 or as agreed.
Those admitted to doctoral studies are part of the faculty-wide doctoral education program at the Faculty of Medicine. The program comprises 25 ECTS credits and is offered in two study paces: 25 ECTS over 8 terms (total 4 years) or over 12 terms (total 6 years), with program start every autumn and spring semester. More information about the program can be found on the faculty's website for doctoral education.
Project Description and Responsibilities
The ARCTIMED project investigates how ambulance and patient transport can be organized during crises and war in the High North, where long distances, climate, and limited resources create specific challenges. The area's strategic location near national borders also implies a risk of rapidly changing care needs and high demands on the capacity and flexibility of the patient transport system. The focus is on efficient resource allocation and alternative transport solutions that can ensure adequate care quality under extreme conditions. The goal is to develop practically usable working methods that strengthen patient safety and system resilience.
The responsibilities include planning and conducting data collection using both qualitative and quantitative methods, including participation in and observation of exercises, as well as work with scenarios and exercise setups. You are responsible for handling, processing, and analyzing collected data, as well as compiling results into scientific articles. You are also expected to present research findings in national and international contexts. Additionally, you will actively contribute to collaboration and activities within ARCTIMED, which is part of the Campus Total Defence Upper Norrland project.
The employment aims at a doctoral degree, and the main task of the doctoral student is to engage in their own doctoral education, which includes participation in research projects as well as doctoral courses, journal clubs, seminars, etc.
