About Us

The Surgical Clinic operates an extensive business within surgery, urology, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, and oncology. We have two inpatient wards in Karlskrona and three outpatient clinics, one of which is located in Karlshamn. We also operate in radiology and emergency care in Karlskrona, as well as on the operating departments in Karlskrona and Karlshamn. Together, we are more than 200 employees.

On Ward 49, all surgical patients admitted via the emergency clinic are treated. Here, patients with surgical conditions, e.g., head injuries, pancreatitis, ileus, and kidney stones, are cared for. We also treat patients with diseases of the breast, thyroid, and blood vessels outside the heart and brain. Major trauma cases are also treated here. A large part of the activity involves acute admissions, while the remainder is planned care. In 2024, Ward 49 was named the Workplace of the Year in Region Blekinge, an award we are incredibly proud and happy about.

On our ward, we employ doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, care assistants, medical secretaries, and kitchen staff. We also collaborate closely with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians, and social workers.

About the Job

Working on a surgical inpatient ward often means working at a high pace and may require making quick decisions. You will gain broad competence and will encounter patients pre- and post-operatively, cancer patients, patients in the terminal stages of life, as well as trauma patients. Your duties include medication management, central lines, ventricles tubes, drainage, wound care, stomas, and urinary catheters. This ensures your development in your role as a nurse.

With us, you have the opportunity to participate in varied, developmental, and highly educational work. You will become part of a lovely team with great cohesion and cooperation. We work with the patient's best interest in focus and have a high level of employee engagement in the ward's development work.

We also work long-term with competence development, and for more experienced nurses, there is an opportunity to further educate themselves, for example, into a specialist nurse in surgical care. Working hours are scheduled for days, evenings, nights, and weekends, and we use individual scheduling.

About You

We are looking for you who are trained as a nurse. If you have experience working on a surgical ward or have a specialist education in one of our areas, we see this as meritorious but not a requirement. With us, it is of great importance that you have an empathetic approach and good treatment based on good ethics, as patients have, together with their relatives, the right to participation and information in decisions regarding their own care. Furthermore, you appreciate good collaboration among colleagues and have the ability to prioritize tasks and remain calm in situations that require it.
