Do you want to lead a business that makes a real difference to students' language, knowledge development, and future opportunities?
The Mother Tongue Unit is a central operation within the Children and Education Administration in Östersund Municipality. We are responsible for mother tongue instruction and study guidance in the mother tongue and collaborate with approximately 30 schools and preschools in both municipal and independent operations. The operation comprises approximately 75 employees with broad linguistic and cultural competence.
Our operations are characterized by a complex everyday life where planning, coordination, and flexibility are crucial to creating quality and equality. The operation has a long-developed work within digitalization and AI, where self-developed solutions are used for advanced scheduling and planning. The role therefore requires both understanding of and active participation in continued development.
We are now looking for a deputy unit manager on a part-time basis (70%) who wants to take a close and operational responsibility in the day-to-day operations and contribute to a stable, structured, and equal operation in continued development.
Your assignment
As a deputy unit manager, you have a close and operational leadership with responsibility for parts of the operation's daily operations, personnel, and pedagogical work. You work in a complex organization where employees work at several schools and where planning, coordination, and prioritization are a central part of the assignment.
You work independently within your area of responsibility and in close interaction with the unit manager, where you together create structure, stability, and direction in the operation.
The assignment includes, among other things:
- personnel responsibility for part of the employee group
- lead and support employees in pedagogical issues
- handle personnel matters, follow-ups, and conversations
- make ongoing prioritizations in the daily operations
- contribute to structure, clarity, and continuity in the work organization
- drive and participate in development work based on the operation's needs
- contribute to increased equality between the different parts of the operation
The role involves leadership close to the core of the operation, where you need to be able to combine stable operations with development in a changing everyday life.
Your competence
We are looking for you who have:
- experience of pedagogical leadership where you have led and developed pedagogical operations together with others
- relevant higher education in pedagogy, teacher education, or equivalent
- experience of driving development work within systematic quality work
- experience of working in an operation characterized by multilingualism, intercultural perspectives, or similar complex contexts
- high digital competence and experience of using digital tools in operation management
- very good knowledge of the Swedish language, in speech and writing
We consider it particularly meritorious if you have:
- Swedish teacher certification
- experience of working in Swedish schools and good knowledge of regulatory documents
We consider it meritorious if you also have:
- experience of leading operations in a geographically dispersed organization
- experience of working with or developing AI-based solutions in the operation in a pedagogical context
- experience from municipal or other publicly regulated operations and have an understanding of what it is like to work in a politically regulated organization
We are looking for you who are
Secure and clear in your leadership – you create structure, set frameworks, and follow up. You are clear in requirements and expectations and stand stable even when conditions change.
Calm and professional in pressured situations – you can handle complex situations, conflicts, and difficult conversations in a way that creates trust and contributes to solutions.
Structured and proactive – you have the ability to prioritize in everyday life, make decisions, and drive the work forward even when much is happening at the same time.
Collaborative and communicative – you build good relationships, adapt your communication, and create participation among employees and partners.
Intercultural leadership ability – you have an understanding of how language, culture, and background affect the individual and the organization and can lead in a multifaceted operation.
Great importance is attached to personal suitability. Work tests may be used as part of the selection process.
How the recruitment process goes
In this recruitment, we will ask you for an extract from the criminal record.
Interviews may take place on an ongoing basis. We want you to attach a CV and cover letter to your application. Grades/certificates do not need to be sent with it. We ask you to complete this if an interview becomes relevant.
Östersund Municipality has considered the choice of advertising channels before advertising and therefore declines calls from recruitment firms and advertising sales.
