Perioperative Medicine and Intensive Care (PMI) encompasses Karolinska University Hospital's consolidated resources for surgery, anesthesia, and intensive care. We are a hospital-wide function dedicated to patient-centered, high-quality, and innovative care.
We are now looking for an Assistant University Nurse (BUS) with responsibility and expertise in robotic surgery for the Abdominal and Robotic Surgery Functional Area.

About the role
As an Assistant University Nurse, you are a clinically active specialist nurse within perioperative medicine, where part of your role involves care development within the specialized field of robotic surgery.
The area of responsibility involves strengthening and developing patient care through quality assurance of routines and methods, as well as promoting evidence-based practice. You are expected to follow current research in the field and work towards implementing person-centered and safe nursing care.
The role's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Supervising, educating, and supporting colleagues with pedagogical competence, as well as implementing new knowledge and technology.
- Actively taking responsibility for the design of care routines and updating instructions and guidelines.
- Being an initiator and monitoring research in the field.
- Developing evaluation methods.
- Ensuring quality in the onboarding of new staff within the area of responsibility.
- Scanning the external environment of the specialty through participation in congresses and local, national, and regional networks.
Together with the other Assistant University Nurses, you will shape and develop a broad competence base and development opportunities for the department staff.
The assignment means that you represent the hospital both within and outside the organization. You are well-versed in the hospital's and functional area's vision, values, strategies, and goals. You work with a long-term perspective and have a holistic view of the operations. You collaborate with Assistant University Nurses, University Nurses, and the Head of Nursing within the functional area and PMI.
You report to the Head of Nursing for Abdominal and Robotic Surgery. The position consists of 80% clinical work as a perioperative nurse and 20% in your role as a BUS. The distribution may vary depending on operational needs.

Qualifications
Requirements:
- Licensed nurse with specialist education in perioperative care.
- At least 5 years of clinical experience.
- Clinical expert knowledge and defined area of care responsibility and expertise.
- Master's degree.
- Supervisor training (7.5 ECTS) and/or healthcare pedagogy (7.5 ECTS).
Being an Assistant University Nurse means you have real and formal competence according to Step 5 in the competence ladder for nurses within Region Stockholm. Merits:
- Master's degree in nursing, pedagogy, or leadership.
- Experience in leading own projects.
About the recruitment process
Appointment as an Assistant University Nurse takes place after due decisions from the assessment group for nurses at Karolinska University Hospital.
Applicants fill out the application for step placement 5-7 according to the competence ladder for nurses, signed by the applicant and verified by two persons, and attach to the application:
- Proof of nursing license from the National Board of Health and Welfare.
- Proof of supervisor training/healthcare pedagogy 7.5 ECTS - course after bachelor's degree.
- Proof of specialist nurse degree (if required by employer).
- Proof of Master's degree.
- List of publications.
- List of study merits for completed courses. For example, LADOK extract from Karolinska Institutet.
The application must clearly define the clinical care area within nursing. Examples could be nutrition, pain, wounds, or nursing within a specific flow/patient group.
In the application, describe how you will perform the following in the role and how it will benefit the patient:
- Follow current research and development.
- Promote the implementation of current knowledge.
- Initiate and drive competence development, education, and care development activities.
- Supervise/teach colleagues and/or students.
- Initiate and participate in nursing research in the field.
