Do you want to contribute to improving women's health?
The KARMA project (Karmaprojektet.se) is a unique collaboration between researchers at Karolinska Institutet and clinicians at the Breast Centre, Södersjukhuset (SöS BC), where the KARMA Study Centre was established in 2010. The project's goal is to reduce the number of women affected by and dying from breast cancer through improved prevention and earlier detection.
In 2024, the KARMA research group launched SMART (Stockholm Mammography Risk Trial). In the SMART study, we are investigating whether screening based on a woman's individual risk for breast cancer is more effective for early detection than current breast cancer screening. Women assessed as having an elevated risk for breast cancer in connection with routine screening are offered a follow-up examination with contrast-enhanced mammography. The study is expected to last for 4 years, of which 2 years will consist of active recruitment.
Parallel to SMART, planning is underway to study whether screening mammography after the age of 74 prevents premature death, improves women's quality of life, and is economically viable for society. The working title is SMART 74+, and the study is planned to start in 2027.

Your role
We are now looking for a nurse with mammography competence to perform examinations using mammography, both standard and contrast-enhanced, in our studies at the KARMA Study Centre at SöS Breast Centre. As a research nurse with mammography competence, you are responsible for performing mammography on a module set up specifically for the study, together with another mammography nurse and two research nurses. The position also involves conducting bookings, registering in RIS/PACS, documenting in the study's medical record system, and handling questions from our participants, both on-site and via email and phone. The work is carried out in close collaboration with the rest of the project group's staff, and you actively participate in evaluations and meetings as we continuously work to ensure that the research maintains high quality and that we achieve our set goals.
The employment is full-time and is a permanent position (6-month probationary period) at Karma Study Centre, SöS Breast Centre, Södra Station, with Karolinska Institutet as the employer.
Who are you?
You are a licensed nurse/radiographer and have both experience and documented education in mammography. You have excellent teamwork skills, contribute to a good work environment, and understand that flexibility is essential in a smaller organization. Personal suitability is given great weight.

Of these, 4–6 people are located at the KARMA Study Centre, and the rest are at Karolinska Institutet in Solna at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB). You will be part of the team at the KARMA Study Centre, which is located in fresh premises adjacent to the SöS Breast Centre at Södra Station, Fatburs Brunnsgatan 7. However, the employment is with Karolinska Institutet, which is a state-run medical university.
