About the Role

Do you love books, people, and working with education for children and young people? As a school librarian with us in Gällivare, you will help build a safe, creative, and equitable school – right in a mountain-adjacent municipality that invests in learning and culture!

The school library service is organizationally located within the public library, under the Youth, Leisure, and Culture Administration, and is conducted in close collaboration with the Child and Education Administration. Together, we create a service that strengthens students' learning, love of reading, and future opportunities.

Responsibilities

You will become an important employee in the school's work with reading, information seeking, and digital competence. Here you work closely with students and teachers and contribute to creating a love of reading and making the library a natural meeting place.

• Operate and develop the school library's activities in line with policy documents and legislation
• Support teachers in teaching, e.g., regarding source criticism and information seeking
• Plan reading-promoting activities, book talks, and theme weeks
• Build and maintain a current, inclusive media collection – print, digital, and in multiple languages
• Create a welcoming reading environment where all students feel at home
• Collaborate with other libraries and cultural actors in the municipality

Qualifications

We are looking for you who want to make a difference in the daily lives of young people and who enjoy both meeting students and working systematically in the background.

• Degree in Library and Information Science or other education that the employer deems equivalent
• Experience working in libraries, preferably school libraries
• Good digital competence and familiarity with library systems and digital resources
• Confident in meetings with children and young people, with the ability to create calm and curiosity
• Good knowledge of Swedish, both orally and in writing; additional languages are a plus
• Gällivare Municipality is the administrative municipality for Sami, Meänkieli, and Finnish according to the national minority language law. Knowledge of any of these languages is an advantage when applying for employment in Gällivare Municipality
• You are engaged, proactive, and have an easy time collaborating with several different work groups. You are structured, flexible, and have a creative approach to your work. We place great emphasis on personal qualities.

Employment Type

Permanent position, full-time. Probationary period may apply.
