Do you want to be part of one of Europe's most prominent big bands, have a secure employment and a high quality of life?

Norrbotten Big Band is now looking for a bass trombonist for a full-time position. Norrbotten Big Band is a modern big band with a strong profile and a clear focus on development, where new music by both Swedish and international composers is central. We regularly collaborate with leading artists and composers and tour in Norrbotten, the rest of Sweden, and internationally. We are also committed to promoting the next generation of jazz musicians through our youth big band, Arctic Youth Jazz Orchestra (AYJO).

Our collaborators include names such as Ambrose Akinmusire, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Louis Cole, Genevieve Artadi, and Tim Hagans, as well as Swedish artists like Lisa Nilsson, Linnea Henriksson, and Tingsek. The artistic director is Joakim Milder.

Norrbotten Big Band is part of Norrbottensmusiken, an activity within Norrbotten County with the mission to develop, produce, and spread professional music activities for children, young people, and adults. Norrbottensmusiken's activities include, in addition to Norrbotten Big Band, Norrbotten World, Norrbotten Chamber Orchestra, Piteå Chamber Opera, Körcentrum Nord, as well as extensive activities for children and young people within Young Norrbottensmusiken.

We are looking for

We are now looking for you who have a higher music education or equivalent merits, extensive experience playing bass trombone in big bands or larger jazz ensembles, and experience in ensemble playing where collaboration, sensitivity, and artistic development are in focus.

You should be able to alternate on the tuba and have broad musical competence as well as high stylistic flexibility.

We place great importance on your personal qualities. You are self-motivated and take great responsibility in your own playing. You are curious and creative and are happy to contribute your own ideas. Furthermore, you find it easy to collaborate with others, are sensitive, and can adapt to others and to different musical situations.

What you will work with

As a bass trombonist in Norrbotten Big Band, you are part of an artistically driven big band with a high international level. The work includes rehearsals, concerts, tours, as well as recordings and participation in radio and TV productions. You also participate in educational activities, including work with the youth big band Arctic Youth Jazz Orchestra (AYJO) and other initiatives for children and young people.

As part of our work for equality and diversity, this recruitment is conducted anonymously. Applications and audio files are anonymized. Selected candidates will be invited to a trial performance in connection with selected productions (autumn 2026 / spring 2027). Invitations will be sent by June 30th. An interview may be conducted in the final stage of the recruitment. We offer a permanent full-time position with a six-month probation period. Working hours are scheduled during the day, evening, and weekends.

Start date by agreement, preliminarily spring 2027.
