The Environmental and Building Department

Job Description

We are currently looking for an Environmental and Public Health Inspector. 1 position.

As an inspector, you will primarily carry out supervision work according to the Environmental Code, which involves a mix of visits to various operations and desk work.

On the environmental unit, we supervise several different industries, including permit-required activities. This involves work with supervision of industry, waste, contaminated sites, workshops, sewage, public health, and more. A large part of the work involves conducting on-site supervision with the general public and businesses. As an Environmental and Public Health Inspector, you typically have different areas of responsibility but share tasks with your colleagues. Your qualifications and preferences may influence which areas you will work in.

On the environmental unit, you will become part of a team of 8 people. We are a positive and welcoming group that values collaboration and good communication. The team actively participates in planning, follow-up, and improvement work. Internal and external collaboration is seen as an important and natural part of daily life.

Our external collaboration takes place primarily through environmental cooperation within the county, where supervision projects, knowledge enhancement, and experience sharing occur, but also internally within the municipality and as advisory support to our businesses.

Qualifications and Merits

Qualifications:
We are looking for you who have a university degree in environmental and public health or other education that the employer deems equivalent. You have knowledge of the Environmental Code. For this position, a valid B driver's license is also required.

Our main areas of supervision are environmentally hazardous activities (including agriculture and small sewage systems), public health, and contaminated sites. We conduct supervision against a large number of different industries in the municipality.

To succeed in the role, you are good at structuring, planning, and prioritizing your work. You take personal responsibility for independently driving your own cases and processes forward. We assume that you are good at collaborating and see collaboration both internally and externally as natural and inspiring. You are calm and stable in your interactions and can handle many different situations. You have an interest in people, the ability to discuss, and collaborate. As an inspector, you must also be comfortable making independent assessments.

You are accustomed to making trade-offs and focus on prudent decision-making. With good interaction, you communicate so that messages get through and expectations for all parties are clear. You communicate fluently, both orally and in writing, in Swedish.

Merits:
If you have experience in inspector or supervision work, it is considered a merit. Likewise, if you have experience working with contaminated sites, the Environmental Code, and official authority work. We place great emphasis on your personal qualities.
