Description

Talldungeskolan is located in Kortedala and has approximately 260 students from preschool class to year 3. Here, students learn in various ways individually, in groups, and through research and study visits. We focus heavily on language development and communication, as we know this is the most important foundation for knowledge development in all subjects. We also develop work with image support and signs as Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Here, all children are met based on their unique needs, and we vary teaching and the learning environment both indoors and outdoors. This is done by utilizing the forest around the school and our outdoor classroom.

Responsibilities

We work based on the City of Gothenburg's Library Plan 2024–2028, with the goal that the school library should have a clear pedagogical function. Its primary task is to promote students' reading and media and information literacy, as well as to create a school library for all, through collaboration with teachers. The focus of the school library's operations is on students' increased goal achievement, well-being, and identity formation by integrating the school library into the teaching.

School libraries play a significant role in the school's compensatory mission by meeting students' different needs and prerequisites. They can help open windows to the world by broadening reference frames and building resilience against disinformation. The school library should also promote the status of literature and interest in education, while reflecting the interests and differences in students' daily lives.

As a librarian, you work to strengthen students' reading engagement and reading skills through reading-promoting and language-developing methods and activities, both independently and in collaboration with school staff. This includes, among other things, leading lessons in the library or classroom, collaborating with the after-school center in various forms, participating in joint activities (and sometimes taking responsibility for them), attending staff and development meetings, participating in breaks (e.g., through the "break library" concept), and generally being an active and present adult at the school.

You develop forms and methods to strengthen students' media and information literacy and digital competence. For example, through lessons in the library and classroom, collaborations with teachers, and being an active part of students' daily school life. You plan and conduct teaching and guide students both in the library and classroom. You work to ensure the school library is an active part of the school's values-based work and democratic mission. As a school librarian, you are responsible for the school library room and work to ensure it becomes a learning environment that is socially, pedagogically, and physically accessible. Responsibilities include media planning and purchasing, circulation, and book handling. Together with school librarians at other primary schools in the city, you are part of the Primary School Administration's school librarian network for collegial learning. You are expected to participate in competence development initiatives aimed at developing school library operations.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who have a university degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent. You have high digital competence relevant to the tasks and a strong interest in children's and young adult literature.

To fit this role, you need to have a strong commitment to children and young people, their learning, education, and cultural experiences. You also have a strong ambition to translate research and in-depth subject knowledge into well-functioning school library practice.
