Part-time temporary position (60%) located in central Stockholm. Evening and weekend shifts may occur. Start date as soon as possible, employment until no later than 2027-05-31.

The National Museum is a government agency with approximately 160 employees, tasked with promoting art, interest in art, and art history. The museum's collections include painting, sculpture, drawings, and graphics from the 16th century to the turn of the 20th century, while the collections of crafts, design, and portrait art extend to the present day.

The collections are displayed in the main building on Blasieholmen, Stockholm, and at approximately 20 other visitor sites, including Gripsholm Castle, Läckö Castle, Nationalmuseum Jamtli in Östersund, and Gustavsberg Porcelain Museum. The National Museum also conducts exhibition, program, research, and publication activities, as well as lending services. By providing contemporary perspectives on history and historical perspectives on the present, we create opportunities for in-depth conversations about art and design for all ages.

Do you want to open the world of art for children and young people? As an art educator with responsibility for exhibitions for children, schools, and the studio, you will work primarily with children and young people in school programs and leisure activities, guided by the museum's pedagogical curators. Your duties include welcoming school groups to the museum and conducting weekend and holiday activities for families in the museum's studios.

Main Responsibilities

As an art educator with exhibition responsibility, your main tasks are operational and related to public activities. You will carry out developed programs and tours, including:

  • Welcoming school groups to the museum for tours and studio programs
  • Conducting weekend and holiday activities for families in the museum's studios
  • Conducting tours of the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions
  • Conducting workshops for young adults in the museum's studios

Requirements

You need a well-founded experience in oral communication and facilitating conversations about art. You have good experience in leading creative processes and working with various materials and artistic techniques. Experience in pedagogical work with children is required, and you need good knowledge of the museum's areas of operation and collections.

  • You must have a university degree in art or culture (minimum Bachelor's degree/BA)
  • You must have at least 2 years of professional experience working with children
  • You must have at least 2 years of professional experience in art education at a cultural or art institution
  • You must have at least 1 year of experience presenting and communicating the National Museum's collection areas
  • You must be able to communicate well in both Swedish and English. Active ability to present and communicate in other languages is an asset

Assets

  • Documented language skills beyond Swedish and English
  • Documented education in oral presentation/storytelling
  • Documented experience of longer participant-based art educational projects

Personal Qualities In your role as an art educator, you will meet visitors, primarily children but also adults, in booked groups and drop-in activities. The ability to engage and meet participants where they are, create positive encounters, and be a creative problem solver is important. Collaboration with others is ongoing and requires good teamwork skills and social competence. Great importance will be attached to personal suitability.
