The Prison and Probation Service is Growing – We are Hiring New Colleagues in Luleå and Haparanda
The Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and extending our operations, and are now seeking more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will become safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation services, remand prisons, and client transport.
About the Operational Area
The Luleå operational area is the Prison and Probation Service's northernmost region, covering the Luleå and Haparanda prisons as well as the Luleå remand prison. The largest professional group is prison officers, but the area also employs healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production managers, and others. Inmates at the prisons are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or in the prisons' wood production. The Luleå prison and remand prison are easily accessible by public transport; if you drive, you can park in our staff parking lot. The Haparanda prison is a five-minute walk from Haparanda station.
Job Responsibilities
As a prison officer, you will be part of a team with daily contact with clients. Tasks at the prison/remand prison vary: care, surveillance, search, and security work are combined with release planning and counseling/motivation work. Work at the remand prison is often routine-based and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be held in remand for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the prison staff, which places special demands on you as a prison officer.
Working as a prison officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your mission, it is important that you share the Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values regarding a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and the belief that people are capable of development.
You will begin your employment at the workplace with a three-week introduction. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the Prison and Probation Service's basic training, which is mandatory and lasts 8 weeks. You will receive a salary throughout the entire training period, which takes place at another location. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your eligibility for permanent employment.
Qualifications
Your personal qualities are very important to us. As a prison officer, you need to be secure, stable, and have good self-awareness. Since you drive the operations together with your colleagues, you need good teamwork skills and the ability to communicate clearly. Your professional practice requires good judgment and integrity. We are each other's work environment, so you must have excellent physical fitness that enables you to act physically when the situation demands it. We place great emphasis on personal suitability.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
- A completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience deemed relevant by the Prison and Probation Service.
