Test Leader at Bofors Test Center
In the forests outside Karlskoga lies Bofors Test Center.
Here, advanced weapon systems are tested under controlled conditions, in an environment where planning, execution, and safety are closely intertwined.
At the test sites, shooting technicians, measurement technicians, photographers, and other specialist functions work side by side. Equipment is set up and measurements are prepared. While much is planned in advance, the work places high demands on handling the unforeseen.
Bofors Test Center is an internationally established player in testing both military and civilian products. We are now looking for a test leader. This is a role where you lead the work in project form from planning to execution and are responsible for ensuring that it works in practice, even when conditions change.
“You are at the heart of the operation. You keep the work together, lead the team, and ensure that what is planned actually works and is followed up in practice,” says Erik Hjerpe, Deputy Manager Testing.
Your Responsibilities in the Role
As a test leader, you are responsible for planning, leading, and executing tests. The assignments vary from one day to several weeks.
Before a test, you plan the setup, manage risks, and ensure that the right resources are in place. You ensure that everyone knows what needs to be done and what is expected.
You also maintain ongoing dialogue with the customer regarding setup, conditions, and delivery. Here, you need to be clear about what is possible, what is required, and what is actually the right way forward. In many cases, this dialogue takes place in English, as several of the customers are international.
During execution, you are the one who leads the work on site. You coordinate technicians, photographers, and other functions, maintain communication, and have the final say on how the work should proceed, especially when there is no obvious answer.
After execution, you are responsible for documentation, follow-up, and delivery to the customer.
When Planning Meets Reality
The preparations for a test are extensive, but it is during execution that the role is truly tested.
Things happen that cannot be fully planned. This can involve technical deviations, something not working as intended requiring the right type of actions, or a phase needing to be interrupted and redone.
You will often have many things going on simultaneously. Questions come from various directions, the team needs answers, the customer wants to move forward, and at the same time, something in the test may not function as planned. In those situations, you are the one who holds the whole together. You ensure that communication is clear, that the right things are prioritized, and that the work continues safely.
”Your task is never to rush, but to pause, create an overview, and make the right decisions safely, even when there is pressure from others to move faster,” Erik continues.
Safety Comes First in Every Decision
Safety is the starting point for every decision you make.
Before each test, risk assessments are made and planning for how different scenarios will be handled. During execution, it is about continuously following up and ensuring that the work is carried out within the right frameworks.
This also means that you need to be able to pause when something doesn’t feel right, bring in the right expertise, and make decisions based on facts. Sometimes it means saying stop, even when there is time pressure or expectations from the customer.
You are not expected to know everything from the start. However, you need to be confident enough to ask, seek help, and never take chances on issues that affect safety.
Examples of What is Included in the Role
- Plan and lead the execution of tests from start to finish
- Coordinate technicians, measurement personnel, and other resources
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure that safety work is in place
- Be responsible for communication with the customer before, during, and after the test
- Make decisions during ongoing tests based on current conditions
- Document results and compile materials after completed tests
We Believe You Recognize Yourself in This
We are looking for someone who is calm and confident in your leadership style, even when a lot is happening around you. You can create structure when several things are happening simultaneously and still keep focus on what is most important at that moment. Clear communication comes naturally to you, and you ensure that others truly understand what is required.
We believe you actively choose to seek help or ask questions when you are unsure, while also being confident in standing by your decisions, even when there is pressure to move faster.
It is an advantage if you have experience in leading or coordinating work. If you have also worked in an environment where technology, safety, and practical execution meet, you will recognize yourself more quickly in the role. Perhaps you have even worked with some form of shooting system.
”The most important thing is not exactly what you have done before, but how you lead in situations where a lot is happening simultaneously and where decisions matter,” Erik concludes.
Furthermore, you have:
- Good knowledge of the Office suite, especially Excel
- Very good command of English in both speech and writing
- Good ability to plan and work structured
- Additional language skills are an advantage
