Senior Research Engineer in Evolution and Developmental Biology

The Department of Organism Biology announces a position for a Senior Research Engineer for the Evolution and Developmental Biology program.

Job Responsibilities

The Senior Research Engineer will have various tasks within the Evolution and Developmental Biology program, focusing on supporting the program's research on vertebrate evolution and our tomographic support center, the "Tomo Centre", which provides support for tomographic research activities outside the program. The role includes administrative tasks such as inventorying equipment, license management of segmentation and FEA software, managing the program's purchases and invoices in Proceedo and Raindance, administration and management of data storage areas (Argos and UPPMAX), as well as coordinating the archiving of research data and making data available through open data repositories (e.g., SND, MorphoSource). Segmentation and rendering of CT data of fossil vertebrates are also included, as well as practical assistance to other users of the program's workstations and segmentation software (Mimics and VGStudio MAX). The position will also involve outreach activities in the form of responsibility for the program's website and, during the first year, planning for the International Symposium on Early and Lower Vertebrates, which will be held in Uppsala in 2027. If needed for the department's activities, the position may also include teaching at the basic and advanced levels.

Qualifications

A PhD in vertebrate paleontology or another relevant field. Experience working with CT data, including segmentation of scanned fossils. Excellent command of English is required, both spoken and written. Personal qualities such as flexibility and problem-solving ability will be highly valued. The tasks require a strong commitment, high personal integrity, service orientation, and loyalty. You should be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with others.

Desirable/meritorious

Teaching experience is meritorious. Experience in science communication is also desirable.

The position is permanent (probationary employment may apply). The extent is 100%. Start date is 2026-05-11 or by agreement. Location: Uppsala
