Object Curator at Västmanland County Museum

Job Responsibilities

We are looking for an object curator who wants to work practically with our cultural historical collections. You will be an important part of the work that ensures that the objects are preserved, organized, and made accessible for the future. The work includes ongoing management, care, and documentation of objects in our various storage facilities as well as in spaces outside the storage. You will work with documenting, investigating, caring for, and handling objects. You will also be responsible for placing objects and for finalizing registrations of accessions from 2024 and 2025, as well as preparing and presenting cases for the internal acquisition group. Other tasks include managing some loans and monitoring and responding to incoming inquiries via the collections' email inbox. If time permits, you will contribute posts to social media.

Västmanland County Museum is part of Region Västmanland and is located at Karlsgatan 2 in Västerås and at WestmannaArvet in Hallstahammar. The object storage where you will perform many of your tasks is located in Hallstahammar, and you will be part of a team with several object curators. Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you need to have a bachelor's degree in cultural heritage with a focus on object curation or equivalent conservator education. You have experience in object handling and working with collection management, as well as familiarity with registration in collection databases, preferably Primus, and a good ability to photograph objects.

As a person, you are organized and enjoy creating structure in both physical and digital environments. You are curious and want to continuously develop methods and routines within collection care, while also being self-driven and confident in advancing your work independently.

Employment Conditions

Fixed-term employment, 100%, 6 months. Start date August 14, 2026.

Location: Hallstahammar
