Our values are based on credibility, trust, and security. By being courageous, thinking freely, and doing new things, we create a better future together, through both large and small actions. Welcome to apply for a job with us!
Your Responsibilities
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily conduct research. Teaching may also be included in your duties, but no more than one-fifth of your working time.
You will work in Robert Blomgran's research group at the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, Linköping University. Your main responsibility will involve conducting subprojects related to latent tuberculosis (TB) in Sweden, focusing on whole blood analysis of immune cell activation and reactive oxygen species response. This involves using a new flow cytometry method established by the research group, which includes the analysis of three monocyte subtypes, neutrophils, and eosinophils regarding intracellular production of reactive oxygen species upon whole blood activation.
In Ethiopia, our latest findings have shown that helminth infection leads to the expansion of intermediate (HLA-DRhighCD14++/CD16+) and non-classical (HLA-DRhighCD14low/CD16++) monocytes in TB patients, which exhibit an inflammatory behavior (elevated TNF) and are correlated with increased disease severity. Consequently, these monocyte subtypes will undergo further investigation in latent TB, focusing on characterizing their ROS response, inflammatory potential, and immunosuppressive capacity.
This project is highly relevant within the research field of infection and inflammation and requires close collaboration between the applicant, preclinicians, and clinicians. The research approach is translational, with a comprehensive collection of patient material from patients with helminth infections available for the postdoctoral researcher to clinically verify the findings.
Your Qualifications
To be eligible for the position of postdoctoral researcher, you must have obtained a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree. Your degree must be completed by the time the employment decision is made.
It is advantageous if your degree was obtained no more than three years before the application deadline for this position. If there are special reasons, those who obtained their doctoral degree earlier may also be considered, for example, due to various types of statutory leave.
We are looking for someone with a doctoral degree in immunology with a focus on infection biology or parasitology. We want you to have experience in independently writing manuscripts in English as well as handling large datasets with R programming. We expect you to have excellent proficiency in both Swedish and English.
We also want you to have experience with the following methods/techniques:
- Cell culture
- Molecular biology
- Flow cytometry
- Basic statistical analysis methods
It is also advantageous if you have:
- Completed courses in immunology, statistics, infection biology, and host-pathogen interaction or similar
- Previously demonstrated a particular focus on host-pathogen interactions and immunomodulation in infectious diseases
- Prior experience in P2/P3 labs
We expect you to have a positive attitude and good collaboration and communication skills.
