If you have experience in research on canine behavioral biology and are skilled at analyzing large datasets – then this position might be for you!

Your Responsibilities

Your main tasks will be to analyze and compile data and video material from a random sample of Swedish dog owners. The long-term goal is to create a more comprehensive picture of the Swedish dog population - including personality types of both dogs and owners and how these relate to each other. The results may eventually contribute knowledge relevant to breeders, rehoming organizations, and dog owners, with the aim of improving the quality of life and welfare for dogs and their owners. As part of this position, you will also teach within the biology subject.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will primarily conduct research. Teaching may also be included in your duties, but to a maximum of one-fifth of your working time.

Your Qualifications

To be eligible for the postdoctoral position, you must have obtained a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree that is assessed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree. Your degree must have been awarded no later than at the time the employment decision is made.

It is advantageous if your degree was awarded no more than three years before the application deadline for this position. If there are special reasons, it may be considered for those who obtained their doctoral degree earlier, for example, due to various types of statutory leave.

You should have a doctoral degree in ethology or equivalent and wish to contribute to our research on canine behavior. Documented research experience and knowledge in behavioral biology are required. You should also have good experience working with large datasets, as well as documented skills in statistical analysis and data visualization, such as working with regression models or GLM-based analyses. Experience in canine behavior research and conducting behavioral tests is advantageous.

You should have excellent proficiency in English, both spoken and written. Knowledge of Swedish is advantageous, as the current study targets Swedish dog owners and the research questionnaire is in Swedish.

You are an independent and analytical researcher with a good ability to plan, execute, and follow up on research projects. You work in a structured and meticulous manner and have good collaborative skills. Furthermore, you have strong communication skills in both speech and writing, the ability to critically evaluate research results, and an interest in research communication and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Your Workplace

You will work in the Department of Biology. The department is integrated with overlaps between research groups and subjects but can be broadly organized into five main research and teaching areas: Ecological Modeling; Conservation Biology; Zoology, Ethology, and Animal Welfare; Evolution and Genetics; and Cell and Microbiology.
