Technical Unit is looking for a Recycling Worker - for those who want a varied job!

The Technical Unit is responsible for the collection of all household waste in the municipality of Övertorneå, as well as the operation of the Orjasjärvi recycling center.

We now need to strengthen our resources primarily with a temporary position during the period 20260401-20261030 with the possibility of extension.

We have also received an expanded responsibility regarding packaging collection that includes, among other things:

• From January 1, 2024, municipalities will have the operational responsibility to collect households' packaging waste and inform households about preventive measures and sorting of packaging waste.
• By January 1, 2027, all municipalities must have implemented property-close collection from households and co-located businesses that have chosen municipal collection of waste from packaging in the materials paper, plastic, metal, and glass. The collection must be expanded throughout the municipality.
• Bulky packaging made of paper, cardboard, and plastic must be collected at easily accessible collection points.
• From January 1, 2026, municipalities must collect sorted packaging waste of paper, plastic, glass, and metal packaging in squares and parks.
• From January 1, 2026, municipalities must also collect plastic packaging at other popular locations.

As a recycling worker, you will work in a team but often also individually, collecting, emptying, and transporting packaging from various locations around the municipality to our recycling center in Orjasjärvi. Transport is done with various vehicles and trailers that require a B driver's license.

When our regular operations manager at the recycling center needs help, is on leave, or performs other tasks such as driving the garbage truck, you will work at the recycling center with sorting, guidance, and assistance to our visitors/customers. Sometimes you will assemble garbage bins, register them in our customer register, and transport them out to customers. You will be responsible for the handling of our mobile recycling stations (trailers) that are placed in villages around the municipality according to a set schedule.

Qualifications:

• We are looking for someone with a few years of work experience.
• You have completed high school education.
• You have good knowledge of Swedish in speech and writing.
• It is advantageous if you have experience collaborating with both clients, contractors, and customers.
• You take responsibility for ensuring that the work is completed, structures, prioritizes, and follows up.
• To succeed in the role, you need to be persistent and engaged in driving your own work forward.
• You should have a willingness to learn new things and not be afraid to jump in where needed; one day is not always like another.

The Technical Unit of Övertorneå municipality manages the operation, maintenance, and management of the municipality's and the Matarengihem Foundation's property portfolio.

In total, the holdings comprise about 470 apartments and around 80 municipal properties used by the municipality's various service providers, such as schools, care, and social services. The Technical Unit consists of about 30 employees who, in addition to properties, also handle waste management, water and sewage, streets, parks, and green spaces, as well as vehicle coordination.
