Project Assistant in Qualitative Health Research

Workplace Description

The research focus is on qualitative health research with an emphasis on decision-making regarding risk-reducing surgery for hereditary breast and ovarian cancer.

The project is led by Ylva Heyman at Lund University and is conducted within a multidisciplinary research group with participants from Umeå University (Anna Rosén), Uppsala University (Mirko Ancillotti), and Porto University (Álvaro Mendes). The group collectively has extensive experience in qualitative methodology and participates in recurring thematic analysis meetings.

We are now looking for a project assistant for 100% for two months, from June 15 to August 16, 2026.

Job Responsibilities and Areas of Responsibility

We are looking for a team member for the project “Decision-Making Around Risk-Reducing Mastectomy in Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer,” which is now expanding with more study sites and interviews with doctors. The role is needed to strengthen the work with interviews, analysis, and manuscript preparations.

The position includes conducting semi-structured interviews with women at hereditary risk for breast and ovarian cancer as well as with doctors. You will also work with qualitative coding and thematic analysis, participate in analysis meetings, and contribute to manuscript work.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • Ongoing education in the medical program at Lund University, at least in the seventh semester.
  • Experience with qualitative interviews
  • Basic experience in qualitative coding and analysis according to thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke)
  • Communicative
  • Responsible
  • Able to work independently

Meritorious:

  • Completed bachelor's or master's thesis using qualitative methods
  • Previous work in similar projects is highly meritorious

Other

The employment is a SÄVA (special fixed-term employment) at 100% for two months. The desired start date is June 15, 2026, or by agreement.
