Traffic Engineer to the Community Planning Administration

The Project and Traffic unit of the Community Planning Administration is responsible for development, design, project planning, and construction in existing public environments and new development areas. The unit serves as a preparatory body for the road authority and traffic committee. This includes work within the municipal plan areas: Increased safety & security, Climate-smart & sustainable municipality, Attractive & health-promoting living environments, and regulatory authority of traffic.

Katrineholm Municipality is now seeking an engaged traffic engineer who wants to be part of community planning and contribute to ensuring that our residents have a safe, sustainable, and well-functioning traffic environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As a traffic engineer, you will be a central part of the municipality's work with traffic safety, accessibility, and traffic development across all modes of transport. The role combines practical handling of traffic issues with a certain amount of strategic work and involves broad contact with both residents, contractors, and partners.

Your main responsibilities include:

• Review, approve, and follow up on traffic plans, excavation permits, and public space allocations
• Guide the development of traffic regulation in the city by investigating and deciding on temporary and permanent local traffic regulations (LTF)
• Process traffic exemptions for e.g., heavy traffic
• Monitor and manage the parking supervision agreement for parking monitoring and handle vehicle relocations
• Manage grants for private roads
• Investigate and order signage for bicycle and car traffic, as well as improvements to signage/traffic regulation, etc.
• Serve as a preparatory body for the road authority and traffic committee, coordinate traffic safety work in the municipality
• Ensure an accessible traffic environment and represent the administration in the Disability Rights Council
• Be responsible for the municipality's work and contact with the Swedish Transport Administration regarding NVDB (National Road Data Base)
• Be responsible for traffic measurements, analysis, and follow-up of accident statistics, traffic development, and traffic forecasts across all modes of transport
• Prepare responses to comments and citizen proposals in the traffic area and respond to referrals from building permits, County Administrative Board, and Police regarding public space allocations
• Review investigations and designs of infrastructure & public space from a traffic perspective and provide internal support on traffic issues
• Work to ensure that traffic regulation, design, and advocacy work go hand in hand for the best possible traffic environment that meets the goals according to the municipality's governing documents (Comprehensive Plan, Traffic Strategy, Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan, and municipal plan)
• Contribute to the development of sustainable mobility solutions and sometimes be part of the work with the municipality's detailed plans, developments, and urban development

Other tasks may also be included in the administration.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone with a relevant university or civil engineering degree, for example in community building, traffic and urban planning, civil engineering, or similar education deemed relevant by the employer for the position. You have experience in traffic safety work and traffic planning, traffic technology, and road work. You can express yourself very well in both spoken and written Swedish. Good IT skills are crucial for the position, and it is advantageous if you have worked with GIS and LTF systems. A driver's license (B) is advantageous but not a requirement for the position. It is also advantageous if you have experience with similar assignments and have experience working as a client in municipal road management, have worked with traffic regulation, LTF processes, traffic plans, and parking supervision.

You are proactive and enjoy taking responsibility for driving development and change. Your analytical ability allows you to identify opportunities and challenges, while you are solution-oriented, communicative, and pedagogical in your working method. You are confident in making decisions, work in a structured manner, and can handle multiple cases simultaneously. You thrive in a role where you take initiative and combine analysis, collaboration, and dialogue. Furthermore, you have a strategic perspective, turning visions into concrete actions and planning the activities required to achieve long-term goals.
