Job Advertisement: Nurse for the Surgical Department

The Hospitals in the West is an administration within the Västra Götaland Region and consists of four hospitals – Alingsås Hospital, Angered Local Hospital, Högsbo Local Hospital, and Kungälv Hospital. Approximately 3000 employees work with us every day to provide good and safe specialist healthcare of the highest quality.

About Us at the Surgical Department

The Surgical Department is a general surgical care unit that is part of the Surgery and Orthopedics operation.

In 2019, we moved into our new premises at the hospital. The new department has 23 care places designed so that each team of nurses, nursing assistants, paramedics, and doctors has a good working environment with modern technology that provides excellent conditions for delivering patient-safe and person-centered care together with patients and relatives.

We primarily investigate and treat patients with acute surgical diseases in the abdomen and gastrointestinal tract, traumatic surgical injuries, and urological issues. We receive both acutely ill patients and patients coming for planned surgery. The department also has a close collaboration with the Palliative team and manages five action places for patients enrolled in the palliative team.

As a nurse in the surgical department, you will never work alone. We work in teams that collaborate closely with various healthcare professionals. We have a close partnership with the surgical outpatient clinic, palliative team, dietitian, and local healthcare team.

New Nurse or New to Surgical Care?

Introduction

Upon hiring, we arrange a safe and supportive orientation for 4 weeks based on your needs.

Clinical Foundation Year

For newly graduated nurses, a Clinical Foundation Year is included during the first year of your permanent employment. The Clinical Foundation Year includes lectures, process-oriented nursing supervision, and practical training of your profession at the Simulation Center. It also includes shadowing in other operations to give you a broader understanding of the hospital where you work.

Qualifications

You are a licensed nurse; previous experience in surgical and/or palliative care is an advantage. We are looking for someone who is flexible, independent, and meticulous. You will work with varying tasks and patient categories. Additionally, you have a cheerful and positive attitude that aligns well with the department's spirit. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

Conditions

The position involves day, evening, and weekend shifts.
